Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Slow Desktop Pc

    my desktop PC is very slow and its almost torture trying to use it for anything, hence the laptop gets more usage.
    So i was wondering if there was anything i could do to fasten it up to speed? i have a lot of songs on my i-tunes on it which i believe might be contributing largely to the problem...if so would there be anyway to compress the music folder so as to maybe reduce the overall sluggishness of the PC? thanks

    Any number of things could be your problem. You need to answer a few questions first.

    What are the specs/age of the machine? (processor speed, amount of memory etc.)
    Have you run a virus checker and malware tool on it (are they up to date?)? malware and viruses can slow down a machine
    How many programs do you run at the same time?
    As a general rule, don't compress your music file - it can sometimes cause more problems than it's worth
    How much HD space do you have left?

    If you can answer these, we'll have a better idea of what the problem is

    How to put this diplomatically. Windows is always susceptible to viruses/mailware even if you have scanners (only less so) added to which as you add and remove apps over time the registry just gets bigger and bigger and the registry has to be loaded into memory so your memory just gets smaller and smaller.

    As a rule you can never be 100% sure a Windows machine has been disinfected so a complete reinstall is the only sure fire way to sort these sorts of problems out. Trust me I have been doing it nearly 15 years across the various different incarnations of Windows.

    Truthfully the only way to make sure you don't get infected in future is to load a Linux distro and run Windows inside a virtual machine with snapshots (so you can role back any changes if a virus gets in)
