    Hey DT,

Would just like to know how the opening of this place came about. Is it partly funded by the engineers working there or otherwise?

Hope you don't mind me asking, just interested how studios like this one are set up.

hey man, being that it was originally a community training project it was fairly well spec'd out already. there is still funding available to us because we still run courses on the community side (such as drum workshops in conjunction with social workers, and project recordings for the local kids) and after wages the profits are all pumped back into the studio so we can upgrade gear, do repairs etc. we also brought an amount of our own gear in so all in all we've got a pretty good set-up.

Hi DT, looks very nice from the photos.

I'm just wondering how much time has to be given over to the community, is it a set number of hours per week?

    Cheers

very little at the moment hence the reason for us going commercial.

we have a 90 seater venue in the facility aswell (http://www.thebase.ie/getinvolved/fac_blackbox.htm) and a lot of the community music aspects will be moving into it. eventually we hope to train some teenagers to a level where we feel they could act as help on certain sessions but to get to that stage theres a few requirments we'd have to meet due to the nature of some of the work done on the premises.

we'll also be sorting out a newer website for the studio soon enough. thebase.ie will be directed towards the community and arts programs while (hopefully) baserecordingstudio.ie will be a seperate entity.

That sounds cool, the black box looks great too.

I had visions of the place being full of kids on summer camp or you having an old folks day once a month (some of the older members here would love that, me included:D)

    Fair play DT.

    Rock.

dont get me wrong, there are generally a lot of kids about but they have their own area for hanging out with table tennis, airhockey, computers etc. they have no access to the studio unless with an engineer as we have security coded doors for all the seperate areas.

Watch out for the geeks so, they'll crack the codes in no time:D

Best of luck with it DT.
