    Hi all,
i need to extend the drive outside my house. I have to dig next to my griselina hedge which is there about 10 years. I've just started, and noticed a large amount of roots extending about 5ft from the hedge.( I only have to dig one side of the hedge.) My question is, will the hedge die if these roots are cut? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

At a guess, probably not. Root pruning is a recognised way of dealing with trees, and you will only be dealing with less than a quarter of the roots. Grisellinia is pretty tough, but the later into the autumn/winter you can leave it the better.
