Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

After dark, look for faint streaks of red or green light overhead. The aurora may appear like curtains of light shimmering in the sky. They may pulsate or swirl. If conditions are right, the aurora may be quite bright and the colours easy to see.

We don't usually see the Northern Lights in any spectacular way in Cork, but hopefully tonight with the strength of the solar flares and if the clouds stay away, we may be lucky. To see the aurora, place yourself in an area without street lights and you should hopefully see what is an amazing light show from nature.

read about it this morning, fairly clear night here in Glasgow but i reckon light pollution will kill any chances i have of seeing anything.

Nice. 64 seconds makes sense, f/5 seems odd but he's managed a sharp shot there.

It was cloudy up here (Derry) last night so no luck. Not sure if it's to happen again tonight but looks like it'll be more cloud anyway.

Geomagnetic activity has fallen since the peak around the 3rd of August.
We probably won't see a visible aurora in the next few days.

If you like playing in the dark, the Perseids meteor peaks
in a few days. I must remember to drag out my tripod on the
12th. Early indications are that it will be good this year. I
am already hearing lots of meteor 'pings' on VHF radio.

As tonight was brillently clear (Tues 10th am) i did a web serching re: the above Perseids Meteors...and duely went outside with camera, tripod and cheapo remote. Didn't quite know what I was doing in the dark but after a few 30" exposures and messing arround with settings I eventully found my way a bit. Bulb mode 15min plus for light trails.

Anyhow didn't photograph a meteroite but I did see one while adjusting the camera  so they're deffo out there (and that was in tha space of an hour) with more to come over the new few days . Will try again tomorrow night as the night skies are to be clear for the next few days rampping up for the 12th.

BTW This would make a good Boardsie meet up if people knew a light polution free zone.

You can see how light polution plays havoc with the long exposure, although I quite like the second one.

The metorites will peak tommorrow and the next night apparently..

around 100 meteors per hour is the rate that they usually come at and faster but after they peak they rapidily disappear after that - so better hope tommorrow and the next night are good nights

Im going to head out to the Hill of Tara tomorrow night to get some long exposures. Always a fantastic spot.
