As the title suggests. If I were to make a top 5 (not in order):

    1. K2: great app, i can use my free webtexts on my htc hero with it. i prefer it to Cabbage.

    2. Advanced Task Killer: kills off apps running in the background. It has saved me a lot of battery and sped up my phone.

    3. Engadget: great tech news, very reliable and up-to-date.

    4. Tunee Music: best free music app on the Market, no question about it. So simple and always finds what you're looking for.

    5. MixZing: my music player. finds album art, and is much better than the one provided with the phone.

Other apps close to the top 5 would be Google Translate, Soccer Livescore and Shazam. What is everyone elses top 5?

Just 5?? How can I possibly limit it to that? :pac:

    OK I'll try:

    1) Evernote

    2) Next Train Ireland

    3) Jelly SMS (currently on Cabbage since Jelly SMS stopped working with O2, but I'll switch back as soon as it's fixed)

    4) RealCalc - the stock calculator doesn't cut it for me

    5) Dropbox/Linda File Manager (I've included the two together since both are for working with files)

If we're to include apps that come with the phone, then I also use the browser, email client and Google Maps constantly, as well as HTC's animated clock with the second hand (absolutely vital for me since my watch broke), and HTC's Tasks widget.

I also use Twidroyd heavily, but I could live without it. I don't know how I ever managed without the others.

Would be nice to know when you mention apps whether they are:
    1. Free
    and
    2. As a result of above, available to stock phones.

Also, What is the big deal with these task killers? Highly unlikely they are of any benefit based on what I've read........

I am using a Desire - Android 2.2 - all apps are free and available either within the OS itself or on the App market.

    Anyway, my "most used apps"

Wi Fi Hotspot - Just started using that this week - part of the new 2.2 release of Android.

Aldiko - ebook reader. Free and paid for books available through varying services

Cabbage - Free Texting App via your webtexts

3G usage Monitor - more important now that I am using Wifi Hotspot

Runkeeper - I do a bit of walking/running and soon cycling. Excellent app which tracks your progress and can be used to set up training plans.

Soccer Score - Not in major use at the moment but will be used extensively throughout the season.

Call Confirm - Saves you "accidently" calling someone.......Its saved me a few times despite all the other "safeguards" built in.

Word Scramble - A game and a very addictive one in the form of Boggle.

A few apps I find handy from time to time......
    TV Guide
    Qype
Mobile Account Control (to keep track of remaining minutes/texts/data) May only work with Meteor at the moment.

I've tried a heap of apps at this stage and those are the "most used" so far.

Just downloaded Runkeeper, sounds great. Does anyone know any games similar to Replica Island?

That's because its called mobile account checker, not control. It's in the market.

    1. Next Train Ireland (Of course!)
    2. Radiotime (very slick radio app, paid for so had to pirate it)
    3. Spotify (truly awesome)
    4. Twitter (official client)
    5. BBC News (pretty BBC feed-reader)

Worthy mentions: FXCamera, Vignette, Slingplayer, Navigon, Shazam

Great thread and got a few apps off peoples suggestions but would it be possible for people to give an explanation of what the apps do when listing them? Some of them can be hard to judge on names only!

I just went looking for Swype and its not on the market. Where do i get it?

Try searching this forum. It's in closed beta now but there's an apk somewhere.

Im not sure is it even on the market.
This since the beta closed its only available to manufacturers who want to put it on their phones like the Samsung have it on the Galaxy S and I think the mytouch 3g has it too

Ah, I see. I was under the impression it was Paid for, hence unavailable to many.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,016 ✭✭✭nedd

had a further search for it and from what i can see its not on the Market (either paid or free). I did find an apk of the beta version on-line though.

    Thanks

google maps with the beta navigation add on,

On holidays in Germany recently and this worked really well for driving and walking about the place as well as finding some bars and shopping centres etc
only limitation was driving in a heavily forested rural area and the data connection was lost.
Bet the hell out of giving Hertz €80 for a nav system
