Waiting on Jobseekers Allowance but cant afford rent

Hi,

I just finished college and have been applying everywhere to get a job. Meanwhile ive applied for the JSA in Bishop Square Office, Dublin and have been waiting 5 weeks but have heard nothing.

In the meantime I have been unable to pay rent and have had to move into my granny and aunts house till i can find a job. My aunt is a teacher and my granny is 90years old so no income other than state pension. Will i be means tested against my aunt and will I receive the full amount?

Also, I know this has been asked many times and some people have been waiting longer but does anyone know what is the waiting time till the inspector comes to my grannys house for the means test.

Also how who do I contact to find out the current status of my claim and is there anyway to put some pressure on them.

Your aunt and granny will not be considered when you are means tested.

Have you tried to claim supplementary welfare allowance? It's a means tested payment for people who are awaiting a dole payment and have no income.

No i havent tried that. Where would i go to get that? Great news though that my aunt wont be means tested. also do you know who i can find out from how far along my claim is?

You could ring the office where you have applied - they should be able to tell you who has your claim at the moment, therefore a rough estimate on the timeframe.... nothing is certain with them though! "Within two weeks" turned out to be about five for me!
