    Hi Guys,

We have a server here in work that its giving us endless grief. Its got an old accounts package on it hense the amount of effort were putting into getting it up and running.

Our problem is when we bring files over on a memory stick to install, such as print drivers, anti-virus etc, when we double click on them they simply wont launch.

Other already installed programmes are fine, its just anything new and additional we wish to install.

Would appreciate any views/advice/guidance on this where possible.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Rgds

Are you running from the memory key or copying them over to the server?

First thing I would do is take a good image of it now, before you start playing with it

What do you see in the Event Viewer when you try and launch an exe?

You could also have a security policy which has locked down the PC.?

You could be infected with some sort of virus\spyware

Have you tried patching the server to latest and greatest?

Why not take an image (make sure it works and run a repair on the OS?

What about upgrading to WS2003 and just run the accounts package in compatability mode?

Honestly, it shouldnt take that long to figure out/fix

assuming it is not a security policy setting (which it may be), try sfc /scannow to start with

From my old memory, it's not mentioning NTFS streams in the error message?
