Can you please tell us the FFer that will get your vote? You are obviously overlooking the greater lack of ethics and fairness in the party, would you care to comment?

Niall Collins in the new Limerick city constituency.

    Maybe not

Definitely not, I would have thought...

, but Bertie Ahern's version of socialism (tax and spend, mostly directed at over inflated PS wages) is a core reason for our difficulties.

As the survival of the Irish economy over much of the last decade depended entirely on people selling overpriced properties to each other, I think it's pretty disingenuous to even suggest that Comrade Bertie's predominant political philosophy (one of vacuous populism, and little else) could ever be realistically described as 'Socialism'. It's highly unlikely that he spent much of that period throwing money around like a drunken sailor as a result of any hidden Marxist leanings (the nearest Bertie ever got to Marx was promoting Willie O'Dea).

My comment was really tongue in cheek Ray. Bertie famously described himself as the last socialist in a debate with Higgins in the Dail.

You have called me an idiot because I vote FF always and forever

You have pledged your lifetime allegiance to a political party regardless of what they may do to you and the country. You are demonstrating your idiocy just fine yourself with your fanaticism. I wouldn't call you an idiot, is there a need?

Can I field this one ?

1.The jobs created were an illusion. They were created on the back of an artifically inflated market, which was the product of cheap credit and reckless banking practices. They are not coming back. I can guarantee you that at least 150,000 people within the unemployment system are products of these unsustainable and false "jobs. Unless they retrain, the are on the dole for the long haul

2.Our blunt competitive edge, our third world broadband system, our PRSI mechanism, our land costs (artificially interfered with by Governmental forces) have scared foregin companies away. Hence we hear of constant closures, and lay offs. All the current show can offer is potential "high skilled jobs", which may or may not be rolled out over the next years. As long as these companies stay away, our dole ques will get larger.

It doesnt matter what the opposition "will do". As things stand we are where we are. But little or nothing has been done to rectify the chronic lack of jobs, joblesness, and welfare traps which have sprung up.

The vast majority of the 450,000 people (yes 450,000, not "300,000), are not going to be in a position to go back to work, as their skills are limited. Equally, there are a lot of professionals who have suffered greatly thanks to this.

Your smug attitude is an affront to the sufferings of those who are stuck at home today, and will be stuck at home, in a jobless rut for the future.

An arrogant post totally ignoring the fact there are still up to 700000 people in this workforce TODAY who were not there before FF came to power. This is an illusion, these are false jobs ? Recessions will happen and things will go wrong, FF have never claimed to be prefect !

The claim "it doesnt matter what the opposition will do" has to be the most arrogant remark I have come across on these message boards in the short time I have been visiting them. Truly it is a shocking thought that these ABFF dominated boards contain people who will within the next two years be voting in a government that is 100% devoid of policies. To be totally honest, despite FF faults and I have to admit they are many, if these boards are an indication on what is in store for this country in the near future we can put the "Closing Down" signs up straight away. Its literally depressing reading thread after thread set up with no other intention than to denigrate FF. At this stage I should have come across a poster with some sort of balance dview, someone who will say "Hey we've got problems, whats the solutions? " People can smear and sneer FF all they like I have been watching it for decades but to NEVER enter into debate as to what is the best way forward for OUR country is to totally nullify any effectiveness these internet boards should have

Point to a party that is 100% devoid of policies?

You can't be balanced with FF, the scales that weigh up their good deeds vs their bad are leaning to the bad. Ff are less involved in the boom and more involved in the bust then you recognise. Many people have told you the solution to our problems or at least a step in the right direction- clue FF are the problem... vote sensibly, something you'll never understand as a lifetime strictly
    monogamous voter

^^^ Thanks for the opportunity to read that quoted post, Laminations! I needed a good laugh!

As for "100% devoid of policies", well I'd actually prefer that to a government who have implemented almost nothing but bad and damaging policies......."no" policies would be an improvement!

I know that's (slightly) tongue-in-cheek, but considering the blinkered "staunch FF no matter what" that it's commenting on, surely I can be forgiven for exaggerating slightly ?

I mean, this is a post from someone who posted "I believe in FF because FF believes in me", which sounds like a 5-year old comment about Simon Cowell on Britain's Got Talent.....

Maybe scr123 is trying to impress someone in FF in order to get elected in the future by spreading the word, but thankfully most people are now politicially informed enough to know that FF's actions are damaging and destructive......a little like the other 2 previously-powerful organisations - the banks and the church - most people now realise that they abused the respect they were afforded and are not worthy of being used to wipe our feet.

Arrogant ! Are yo having a laugh. 450,000 people, with the youth flocking from the country on the emmigration planes. The guts of the jobs which were created were an illusion, and permanant jobs which were created while the finance/Enterprise portfolios were held by a PD/FFer and the leader of the Progressive Democrats. Furthermore, when the Rainbow Coalition left office, jobs were being created en-masse. Thus, you cannot give FF credit for creating 1,000,000 jobs, almost half of which were an illusion.

"Recessions will happen". Thats only part of the problem. A banking crisis, one of the highest defecits in the European Union (which can certainly be laid at FF's door 100%), a blunt competitive edge (Thanks again are due to Bertie and Biffo for that one), all comprise a tapestry of woe, which has been developed in a graduated fashion.

Im sick to the teeth of this "what are your solutions" nonsense. FG/Lab (who I have no great love for) dont have the numbers to put forward any policy which will become a reality in the short term. When FF were in opposition between 1994-1997 they were the most reactionary of opposition, who were charged with calling for Nora Owen's head every time a handbag was stolen on O Connell Street. So I will not listen to FF preach the virtues of good opposition, as they were hopeless during their stint there.

Ok, tell me. What do you belive FF is doing so right at the moment ?

Where does this country expect to get to in the future if it cannot break the mould forced on us by our politicians and their fervent desire to win at all costs?

FF have proved themselves to be a party that punishes honesty and integrity and rewards dishonesty and slavish loyalty.

You can't debate with this scr guy. Some time ago, there were pro-FF posters who, while supporting a corrupt and dysfunctional party, at least tried to make intelligent debate about their point of view, and made some sense, even if you didn't agree with them. Strangely enough, they have gone silent, and don't seem to be able to stand over the party any more.

But this guy professes to admire the man who did more damage to his own party than anyone else, among other ludicrous statements, so you may as well argue with the cat about the price of cat food in Tesco.

He would do more good for FF by keeping his mouth shut.

    * edit * In fact scrub that, let him open his mouth and blather to his heart's content.
