Hello Im just wondering can anyone help me? Myself and my partner are looking for our first dog together and want to get one like my family has. That dog is a cross between a Cairn and a Yorkie and is addorable. I've been looking since May and cant find any though there will be a litter in Kerry in October. Just wondering does anyone know of anywhere else these might be or a similar breed? Also we are looking for a female.
    Thanks!!

I would register with your local dog rescue. I know MADRA in Connemara, have quite a few Cairn terriers come through. My own rescue from them was a yorkie x jack russell and he is only gorgeous! I'll refrain from attaching a picture of him on to every thread! ;)

Try contacting http://www.cadagio.com/ That's the breed rescue I got my two from. The rescue page hasn't been updated for a while, but she may be able to find a cairn or cross for you to rehome, or put you in touch with a reputable breeder.

Is it a cairn terrier, a west highland white terrier or a yorkshire terrier your looking for? Or is it a cross of some of these breeds you want? You'l not find a good breeder that purposely crosses two breeds, so your best option is to look for a breeder of one of these breeds, or look in rescue centres for crosses of these breeds.

Since your family's dog is a cross between a cairn and a yorkie it'l be nearly impossible to find the exact same looking dog as there is so much variation between cross breds, the temperment of a dog is mostly down to the environment it is brought up in (and has to do with breeding also, eg. terriers generally have a high chase drive, but for the most part it is down to how the dog is brought up). So if you want a dog similar to your family's dog then have a look in rescues and see if there's anything there. But if you want to go down the breeder route then you will not find a good breeder of cairn x yorkies, it is mostly puppy farmers who are breeding two breeds together and giving it a 'designer' name like carkie!

As mentioned already there is a cairn terrier rescue in Ireland that might have cairns or cairn x's that might suit you. There is also a westie rescue. http://www.cadagio.com/rescue.htm http://www.westierescue.ie/
