Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have a trek 1000 road bike and was wondering is it possible to turn it into a cyclo-cross bike by just changing the tyres on it. What size tyres would fit on a standard road bike like this? Or will I have to get new wheels or is this just impossible?

No, you would not have the clearances on a Trek 1000. I think that bike may take up to 28s; cross tyres are generally 32 but they are also "wide" 32s if that makes any sense. My 32 cross tyres look as wide if not wider than the slick 35s/37s I have on my tourer. Even if you got 28s on you would be left with absolutely no mud clearance.

Brakes are the main issue, not tyres. Caliper brakes will clog up at the first sight of mud, cross bikes use cantilever brakes (you frame doesn't have the appropriate braze-ons for these). On a drier course you might get away with it though.

    Hi,
Brother has a Cyclo cross and was wondering what the issues are if you were to put on racing wheels or tyres i presume that the wheel that is on the bike woule be too wide to take skinny tyres but could he change to racing wheels.

    Wheels are usually the same.

No issue at all - just change the tyres.
