Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    whats the story with young?

MON had a story in the papers a couple of weeks ago saying he'd leave Villa if Young was sold without his permission. And there have been rumours of people interested in Young recently

Wonder how long it'll take the press to blame City for this.

    David O'Leary anyone?? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,018 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

He said: “I have enjoyed my time at Villa immensely. It’s obviously a wrench to be leaving such a magnificent club.
“I would like to pay tribute to the Villa players, my coaching staff and the Villa supporters for all the support and encouragement they have given both the club and me personally during my time as manager. I wish them all the best for the future.
“I will obviously be assisting the club in the immediate short-term with regard to the handover of my duties.”

Posted this on Saturday in the Villa thread

Didn't realise my opinion was held in such high esteem around Villa Park
Related to this and Helix's change of signature what's the general stance on MON at the moment?

It's the last year of the fabled five-year plan isn't it?

How many think there is a decent chance of breaking the top four barrier?

Personally I would rate Villa's chance of breaking into the top four this season to be less than 10%.

However on the flipside I'd say the chance of ending up in the bottom half of the table to be somewhere similar 10%.

Basically he has consolidated Villa as a top eight side but isn't the man to take Villa any further.

Is this season his last chance to break the top four?

Sickened, timing is awful and going to be very hard to find a better manager.

Very upset about this throws the club into an awful state.

What do you reckon for Curbishley as the new manager? I think he'd do a good job with them.

Someone who has morals and sticks to them.

    Fair play to him.

I feel sorry for the Villa supporters, all that brilliant work over the last few years will be tough to continue now.

Villa keep things in house very well and this is imo a prime example, I would imagine there has been some underlying problem like control of Transfers being taken from him or something and he has decided to walk as a result. Im really thankfull for everything MON has done for Villa and hope we have someone in mind already because Someone different could take Villa further than MON (who at this moment i dont know) but whoever takes on that charge this season is not going to have much time to implement changes.

Wonder will any deals take place while Villa are managerless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,246 ✭✭✭Esse85

I dont think its anything to do with A.Young, he came out and said a few weeks ago he was happy at the club and if he was offered a new contract he'd sign it.

I reckon MON was told he wouldnt get ALL the Milner funds to sign players and he had an issue with that.

Can't see this as anything but very bad news for Villa.

Luke Young and NRC probably happy ; Petrov not so pleased.

Will be very interesting to see what happens with the Milner deal now?
    Will it still go through?
Will Ireland still be a part of it?

Was rumours about a medical for Milner at City today.

  • Registered Users Posts: 802 ✭✭✭MarkJD

    Im shocked... Just typical... :(

I would assume Young would be the one who would piss off a manager enough to leave.

Nicky Shorey joins WBA, MON resigns. Coincidence?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,536 ✭✭✭Dolph Starbeam

I did not see this coming, but it should not be a huge shock, last season the club forced him to sell Barry, this season he's being forced to sell Milner and there is talk of Ashley Young on the way out. Martin is ambitious and he can not achieve what he wants for the club with the owners selling his top players. Best of luck to him where ever he ends up, top manager.

I'd say he just got sick of butting heads with the board(didn't the same thing happen with Barry). He thanked everyone except them.

    that would be nice.

Assuming Milner leaves now, I hope Ireland is still part of the deal (assuming that was true).

NRC will be an interesting one to watch at Villa now. minus MON he may see himself with a possible future at the club or atleast as being more likely to stay.
