Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If Fulham failed to get Jol away from Ajax I don't think there is any hope Villa will.

Villa are far more attractive than Fulham.

Jol wanted the Fulham job but Ajax wouldn't release him, so Villa being more attractive than Fulham is irrelevant.

I don't want Kilnsmann but Lerner wanted him before MON, that's why I said it.

Hard to know who will take over but really MON was going nowhere with Villa. Good news for Villa fans me thinks.

Meant it more in the sense that Al-Fayed apparently sent lawyers over to Holland to see about getting Jol out of his contract.

Would agree Villa is a bigger job just cant see Villa going to anything remotely similar in order to get Jol

Bradley would be interesting. Brilliant tactically, but I suppose the question would be how he copes with the fish bowl that management in the premiership can be. He would also not be the media darling that O'Neill was...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,346 ✭✭✭blindpilot

Jol has gone into 5/1 now. Bloody hell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,567 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

Wow, really surprised at the timing of this. Gotta be a falling out with board about not giving transfer funds. Perhaps was not given enough of Milner fee to replace him.

Wonder where Martin O'Neill will go next. Wouldn't be surprised to see him go back to Notts Forrest as Billy Davies there is under huge pressure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,369 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    old boys come home.

Townsend and Staunton in a dream combination reminiscent of the Dalglish/Barnes dynasty at Celtic.

    you heard it here first.

    ;)

All the potential candidates named so far in the thread - from the sublime to the ridiculous.

    Hughes
    Jol
    Martinez
    David O'Leary
    Sven Goran
    Curbishley
    Iain Dowie
    Phil Brown
    Roddy Collins
    Pellegrini
    Klinsmann
    Bob Bradley
    Hitzfeld
    Staunton
    Southgate
    Keegan
    Townsend

    Kevin MacDonald, reserve team manager

Maradonna is free now as well after the world cup.....:p

Bradley hasn't been tested at this level. He could be brilliant or brutal.

Its far too big a job for him at this stage of his career. He really would need to prove himself with a smaller club first.

MON divides opinion but does anyone actually think that Villa will do better than 6th with any new manager and a possibly slightly better squad?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,248 ✭✭✭hitman79

Its bad news for Chris Hughton cus if he loses a game or 2 them mad Geordies will be clamouring to get Martin O Neill in.

He'll get a bigger job than Forest. If Hughton gets the chop early in the season then O'Neill would be a great fit for Newcastle.

the third most popular football bet on PP now is Villa to be relegated this year... some people are just stupid!

Yeah, he's just gone and done a great job at International level. I'd rather take a gamble on Bradley than the usual beaten dockets like Curbishley that's for sure...

Not with a sell to buy system in place, not a hope.

Its going to be very hard to find a manager who will sign with that restriction in place, problem now is players will have their agents working over time. Its bad bad timing, if he could have stayed until January at least but now it throws the whole squad into a mess unless they have a replacment ready for the weekend.

    I'm so p1ssed off

Disagree, O'Neill is an intelligent man and there is no way he would go to the madhouse that is Newcastle. Especially with the ownership situation there. That Newcastle job is a poisoned chalice with way too expectant fans.

If he was hired as Liverpool manager you would have had a fit imo.

The Aston Villa job is as big as the Liverpool job right now.

Nah, reunite the Ireland dream team, Stan and Kevin Mac. I suggest Jack Charlton as their new Premier League management consultant to complete the lineup.

MON is an ambitious man, I reckon has resigned due to the lack of ambition shown by the club, sell to buy policy etc. Mr. Lerner is not looking like the saviour right now.

A sad day for AVFC. :(
