Y'all know I love Arcade Fire, and I'd dearly love to see them on home turf with a home crowd, but if the rumours about a 73 euro ticket price are true, then I shall be seeing them in London instead, methinks.

    We'll see though.

Thinking about London myself. Being from Cork, there is going to be travel/accommodation costs involved anyway. I'd prefer a trip to London instead of Dublin and if the tickets are €30 more expensive here then it's definitely worth thinking about.
Mmm. Now, to be fair, I'm told Arcade Fire command a decently hefty fee - 7 to 11 people to feed, I suppose - but evidently somebody from MCD was paying attention to the €160 people were paying on eBay.

Different times three years ago though...

That probably is true but I'd say their fee for playing Ireland wouldn't be more than what they'd charge for UK, Spain, Germany.......... And as you've said those shows are 30-40. So the difference here would be down to the promoter & whatever reasons are usually given for higher prices here - insurance, travel costs etc..........

But ya, we'll have to wait & see what price they actually are. Even if they are not €73, I bet they are higher than €40 though.

Interesting. This is AF's manager's twitter feed

    http://twitter.com/scottrodger

    Looks like it's 50 to 60 euro ( + fees)

So.. €54.80 or €65.70 (including fees)?

God bless my Lisbon tickets is all I'm saying! :D

AF Dublin - you will get three major acts for this tickets price. The aim, as always, is to give value for money. If this is not cool.......
AF Dublin - Registered mail delivery €6.35. We suggest you buy via Crowdsurge. the link is on www.arcadefire.com for the cheapest way to buy
AF Dublin - Tickets are €50 and €60. Ticketmaster fees (we do not control) €4.80 and €5.70. Add €2.25 if you buy from an outlet...more..
Arcade Fire Dublin - We have added Vampire Weekend and have almost confirmed a third really great act to the bill. We want a great package

So €50 for standing and €60 for seating. That's pretty standard these days. And not too shabby if Vampire Weekend and another band are on the bill.

Yea 50 is pretty decent and with VW and another support

Rock En Seine - €99 for three days, the last of which has Arcade Fire headlining!
I'll leave the O2 gig alone

When are these Arcade Fire gigs supposed to be announced?

For 50 lids, I'd have a peice of that action...they are one band I've been trying to see for ages but never got around to it!

Arcade Fire & Vampire Weekend!!! Why's life so cruel. My exams start that day :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,090 ✭✭✭jill_valentine

I can live with this, it's about as reasonable as you're going to get in this country considering the band. Scott Rodger seems to think we'll be pretty impressed by whoever else is on the bill, too.

    off topic posts removed

TBH i'm not buying the whole value for money thing, if i was going to a gig in the point/o2 i don't want three big acts playing longs sets. I want one support and one 2 hour show from the band i want to see. I hope i'm wrong but i can't see this happening.

probably 45mins first two acts 90 mins AF so unless the first act is on stage at 6 (which is a bit shi-t) it ain't happening.

For me vampire weekend just ensures that i won't be going to this.

Bit off topic but def leppard had 3 support acts and the break down was
    Doors: 5pm
    Tesla: 5.45pm
    Journey: 6.45pm
    Whitesnake: 8pm
    Def Leppard: 10pm
So i'd imagine it would be similar for this.

50 euro youre having a laugh.

Saw them for £18.50 in brixton academy couple of years ago. Irish people are mugs.

What day of the week was it on. friday no? I think there is an earlier curfew on non weekend (fri/sat) night although i am open to correction. I'd like AF on stage at 9:30 latest and want a 2 hour show but hey, i'm greedy like that.

Ciaran man, The Suburbs just outsold Eminem. Those days are long gone.

They've already played their smaller warm up shows this tour, in Paris and London, just as Brixton was a precursor to the big Alexandra Palace shows later on.

It was a Friday i believe.
The thing about that gig though was that the wait between bands was 45 min to an hour and i was half dead after 6 hours of standing. Anyway if they can shorten the wait and make it something like
    Doors 6
    First act 7-7.30
    Vampire 7.45-8.30
    arcade 9-10.45
    it wouldn't be too bad

To my recollection... that's seems awfully late for Def Leppard. I'm pretty sure they were on earlier than that, like half 9 or something. Other than that I'd say there will be similar set timings for this gig.

Well i got that from the o2 website but it seems about right to me cause they finished after 11.30 if i remember correctly (which i probably don't) and their setlist wasn't more than 90 minutes.

It is true that they're a big act but the cost of going to gigs in Ireland in general is more expensive than anywhere in Europe and this seems no different

True dat. And it sucks. I'm just saying, the days of seeing Arcade Fire for 20 quid anywhere are behind us, and it's not comparing like-with-like: the Brixton shows were three years ago, deliberately scaled back warm-up shows which were followed by the far bigger Alexandra Palace shows later in the year. They followed the same pattern this around, playing a couple of deliberately scaled back shows in Casino De Paris and the Hackney Empire, and now they're gearing up to the big venues again.

Out of interest, the discussion over on On The Record about the ticket price was forwarded to Scott Rodger, the band's manager. His response, comment 76, goes thus.

    http://www.irishtimes.com/blogs/ontherecord/2010/08/10/arcade-fire-dublin-december-2/
Having read a lot of the posts here, please take a look at this link:
    http://www.theo2.ie/event-listing/
it has most of the forthcoming 02 events listed and their ticket prices.

Part of the issue is the expense in moving the band, crew and production over to Ireland for only one or two shows. you could argue the same for moving from Europe to the UK or from the UK to Europe. However, those markets generally have more than one or two shows to help absorb the costs. on the current Arcade Fire tour, one third of what we earn goes straight out on equipment – sound, lighting, projection and trucking. from the rest, we have to pay tax (Canadian band – not European), salaries to crew, flights, buses, agent fees, accountants, legal etc etc.

Arcade Fire have always charged a fair ticket price, in most cases less than they could have. It’s almost impossible to find venues anywhere on the planet that are not locked into ticketing arrangements with ticketmaster or similar firms. we try and negotiate their fees and limit them to no more than 10% but we’re not always successful. we make no money from Ticketmaster or the service fees. we absolutely control the cover price of the ticket. We get to sell 10% of the total inventory via our website so that we can attempt to sell the tickets for the lowest possible price.

We are aiming to give every fan value for money with the bill we present. Vampire Weekend who happen to be touring at the same time as us were scheduled to play in Dublin at the same time. we thought we could bring them on board, pay them a real fee and absorb what we can within the ticket price. we also have another act that we are about to confirm on the bill too.

I’d be happy to talk with anyone about this as the band are not in any way attempting to rip off their fans. they never have done. This is a band that last month donated 100% of their fees from several shows ($1m) to give to charity. Every show they do they give £1/€1/$1 to charity. ($800,000 on the last tour).
email me directly on scott.rodger@gmail.com and i’ll respond to everyone personally.

    Thanks

    Scott

The days of me paying 50 notes to any gig are behind us also. Its not just an Arcade Fire thing, Belle and Sebastian tickets are also a ripoff, as are Interpol.

Ive been travelling the world the last few years and paying normal prices to see live acts. Theres no act worth 50 euro. I wouldnt pay that to see Elvis's comeback tour next week

Very honest and forthright reply from Scott I must say.

great to see that people actually listen to what is beign talked about.

An apparently honest comment from Scott. Unfortunately it just leaves the Irish punter in a tough place, pay up the high price or don't go. It WILL sell out regardless, out that I'm fairly certain.
