Users of the James Joyce Library will be pleased to hear that they've finished replacing the escalators. The new ones are much quieter, and are also sensor activated: they only work at full speed when someone gets on, and for a short while afterwards. Plus they have nifty blue LED strips, so you can pretend you're heading for the top floor of a nightclub, instead of looking for a boring textbook.

Death has this much to be said for it:
You don’t have to get out of bed for it.
    Wherever you happen to be
    They bring it to you—free.

The old ones weren't that bad IMO. A little dated but they did the job no problem.

Yeh whenever some faggot pressed the emergency stop and fucked them up for a few hours. Apart from that, they did the job!

We can all pretend we're in a sci fi movie. Escapism ftw.

Lights are clearly to discourage intravenous drug use on the escalators.

In other news, I like them muchly.

does this mean the library is now open evenings and weekends - given that the stated reason for early closing and weekend closing over the summer was the instalation of the new escalators

Yeah, I hate it when that happens. The last time I was stuck on there for so long, I nearly wet myself, before help arrived to restart it. :o

Wonder who'll be the first to have some sort of seizure due to the shocking blue neon lights? :D:D
