Anyone use a period app? I've been using Clue for a while and find it quite good. Was feeling a bit off today and, lo and behold, the app had predicted PMS today.

Yeah I have to use one. Otherwise I'd never remember.

Yep, I'm coming up on a year worth of logging next month. I'm due my period on the second last day of my holidays next month so I was able to talk it out with the doctor this week to delay next months period. I would have only had a rough idea if I didn't have the app!
I also see a pattern in my periods. I get 26-28 day cycles for two months and then a 31-33 day cycle the third month.

I used to use one, on the one i used you can mark a heart in for days where you had intercourse as well as tracking period and symptoms. I became very sad looking at all the info after I became single lol, no more hearts and lots of emotions with no PMS to blame it on :pac: very handy though, I must start again.

Was there an anti heart for if the sex was bad? :p

Can ye recommend an app for this?

Can ye recommend an app for this?

I've been using WomanLog for the past couple of years. It's very simple & reliable.

Before that I used Femta for over a decade, but it was only PC based so I looked to the easier app.

I use the pinkpad app, handy for knowing your fertile days too (if you want that info) I have to use an app or write it down otherwise I don't know whether I am coming or going. Its easy to use and has a friendly screen with all the info i need on the first page, (days to period, days to fertile window, and chance of getting pregnant, low/med/high), and some other pages with info about my cycle, I guess they are all more or less the same.

I've mostly used the various Ovia apps but I'm a bit crap at tracking in general.

I love the Clue app because they back up their claims with references to scientific papers and, as they say, "it's not pink".

Seriously, though, great app and you can log lots of different parameters (how heavy your bleeding is, what type of pain you have [breasts, ovulation, cramps], what your vaginal discharge is like, when you have unprotected/protected sex, what your skin is like, how your digestive system is feeling... and lots more, as well as make custom tags) or just keep it simple and only log your period. They say it takes three months to get enough data to accurately predict your cycle and I found it pretty accurate until my periods went nuts due to medical issues.

Also, they send you an email when you tell the app your period has started and it will give you information about how your cycle compares to the expected ranges for your age group. Also, when my periods started becoming abnormal it alerted me to that fact in a non-scary way, telling me that I had fallen outside the expected range for my age and that it was probably fine, but that if it continued I should seek advice from a medical professional. It is very comforting for me also to know that I have so much information logged to share with my doctor while we try to work things out.

There are optional newsletters too with links to blogs about different people's experiences with birth control or cultural perceptions of menstruation which I find interesting.

I don't work for Clue, I swear! :pac: :pac: :pac:

I use an app called Period Tracker, My Calendar. It doesn't take much phone space, counts down when the next period is, tells when the most fertile day is, gives the option to track symptoms, and there's a log that shows how long each period was.

Ovia all the way, I've used a few and this is by far the best IMO. :)

I downloaded clue based on this thread. I started actually putting mine into the calendar last year as had never tracked at all before...and realised I'm a lot more regular than I thought I was (or maybe I just got regular in the last year or so :) ) - I used to be every 3 months then I'd get it every month for 4 months in a row...then not again for 3 months. Was not a fun cycle when you were in a relationship :)
So plugged all my data into clue that I have for the last year...interested to see if it predicts next cycle correctly.

Hope you find it good. I did find it struggled a bit when my periods went weird (bleeding for 20-25 days in a cycle that could be 4, 6 or 8 weeks) but I guess there's only so much that algorithms can do!

I got mine a week earlier than normal this month after one month of using it :pac: Poor app is confused already.

I've been using Clue since January, and honestly I love it! It's even predicted my period changes once or twice! And totally predicted my PMS correctly!

    Hi all
I was on Logynon phasic bc pill for a couple of years, no problems. Couple of months ago heard about natural cycles, and decided to give that a go. Lasted 6 weeks before I realised I preferred the ease and security of the pill and went back to taking the one I was on. The problem is, I've been massively bloated since - my jeans are literally cutting into me!! I tried a couple of different pills before I landed on logynon a few years ago, and the reason I stuck with logynon was because it didn't make me feel fat and crazy like the others! Luckily I'm not experiencing mood swings, but the bloat is so uncomfortable and impractical and upsetting. My question is has anyone else had any similar experience and can I expect it go away (and soon!!)? Or am I back to square one in having to go and find another pill now? 😩

I have asked my doc but the response is "try it for 3 months" - I'm not putting up with feeling like this for 3 months, I'm sorry!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,691 ✭✭✭Lia_lia

I've been on Logynon for about 10 years and did go off it for about 3 months before. Can't remember having any symptoms going back on it. Except for less painful periods. :pac:

I'm not really a good person to ask about bloating though as I've ibs and I'm bloated 70% of the time anyway.

I would go with what your doctor said, the bloating could be down to anything.

I've been struggling with very heavy, very painful prolonged periods for almost a year now. I got the results of my pelvic ultrasound there and everything is clear, so my GP has prescribed me microlite to take for 3-6 months to see if that will help me get back to normal.

I've never been on any form of hormonal contraception before so does anyone have any advice on things to watch out for or side effects I might not expect?

Hi everyone so ive an embarrassing problem. Sorry if this too long and OTT, If other peoples personal information makes you uncomfortable please stop reading. Just wondering if anyone has had anything similar happen to them or tell me what I can do? Im late twenties.

Ive had very irregular periods for 3 years. It started in August/September 2015, I didnt get my period for 8 or 9 months, I went to the doctor after 3 months but he didn't really take me seriously, he did a pregnancy test, sent me for blood tests that was it, I had to follow him up to get my results because he never got back to me, finally I got an appointment with him, he strolled into the waiting room with his cup of coffee nearly 2 hours after the appointment time, didnt speak, just motioned at me with his finger to follow him, went into his office he said nothing came up in the results besides a viral infection in my blood but said its not important and didnt give me anything for it. So he shrugged and said he didnt know why my periods stopped. I pushed him to do something about it as I was concerned, its not normal for my period to just disappear. So he asked if I wanted a gynaecology appointment? said yes.. 6 weeks later I get a letter from gyno saying ive been placed on the waiting list which was 2 years long. forward a few months my periods came back, I put it all down to stress, the end of a relationship and moving home, I get a letter from gyno if I want to keep my place on waiting list, periods were back so didnt see the point. Lost my appointment.

I changed doctor after that experience, new doctor did a cervical check (unrelated to missed periods) she asked me if I was sexually active, I said yes without thinking, hadnt had sex in months and im worried this may have effected their thoughts on my results? results came back, abnormal cells but no HPV found. I also got tested for std's after my relationship broke down and was all clear.

Periods stayed regular for about a year although some were very heavy, some light.. Around about March or April of this year my periods stopped again, I then got a period in August, another one last month.. now last week I had signs of period, cramps, sore breasts and I lightly spotted once.. then nothing.. all cramps and sore breasts stopped. Besides this ive also had unusually thick almost rubbery ovulation.

I dont see the point in going to the doctor, they wont do anything and the gyno has 2 year waiting list so what's the point? Im worried I might be infertile or something.. not that im trying to conceive but maybe in the future I would like too. What can I do?

Everyones different, I was on microlite for years and never had any side effects at all yet others have had weight gain, others had hormone problems ect, the Yaz pill had me an emotional wreck, yet others love Yaz. One persons experience could be very different to your own.

Unfortunately all that you CAN do is go to the doctor and ask for a referral to the gynae. If it's stressing you out, ask if you can go privately. You could go to a practice with a female doctor who specialises in women's health- for example my GP has a postgraduate qualification in gynae stuff so she only refers on when needed. Only a doctor can comment on your fertility.

Also just saw your response about microlite below. The pill can mess up cycles.

If I were you I'd find a better GP.

Hi Sullivlo, thanks for your response. Im not on the pill, havnt been for a very long time. My doctor is female and I cant afford to go privately. Ive already been to the doctor about this issue and they wearn't helpful.

Maybe try a WellWoman centre or a similar clinic. They're very helpful, and might have a better idea why you're periods are irregular.
