GP should almost definitely be able to take it out, since they put them in no problem and you can get a new one put in when you get the old one removed. I'd say ring your GP and check but shouldn't be any problem with it.

I wouldn't mind getting properly measured but would be very self conscious about the nakedness.... I read somewhere that they say it's ok to leave your bra on... does anyone know if this is true? Because I'd feel better about going to do it then

she will measure around your ribs under ya boobs and usually guess the cup size she goes finds you a bra and you try it on so the clerk doesnt actually see ya boobs as such just the bit clevage so do go with all ya clothes ;)

Hi ladies, just looking for some advice/feedback.

I just recently started the Nuvaring and i'm finding it great so far. However it's making me extremely tight, so much so it's become very painful to try and have sex. Once my bf can actually manage to get in there it's fine, but prior to that extremely painful. i never had this problem before. I have an appointment with the doctor on Monday, but i'm just wondering did anyone else experience this? Did it go away?

Secondly, ideally i'd prefer not to take a hormonal based contraceptive, i've been reading a lot about copper IUD's, but they seem to only be recommended for women that have had children. I am 20 and have never had children, is there anywhere in Cork city that would consider fitting one for me?

    Thanks.

I started on Cerazette 3 months ago with local family planning clinic and now I'm due a check-up and new prescription. I would prefer to go to my GP because they have a more detailed medical history for me. Is it OK to just go there even though they didn't start me on it?

(I wanted to go to my GP initially but silly temp doc there sent me to family planning clinic cos she couldn't help me...)

Hi ladies, was wondering if anyone could advise me. Have a beach holiday booked in May (cant wait) but my period is due bang on the day I arrive and was wondering if anybody had this problem before. Im not on the pill (we're trying for a baby which my doctor knows) but was wondering would my doctor prescribe it to me if he knows its just for a week or is there something else I could take. Any advice is appreciated.

I don't think he would as you are trying for a baby. With the pill you have to wait till the first day of your "bleed" and then take the first pill. I don't think there is anything else you could do, but you could ask your doctor?

Why not try a box of these instead?

I've been in both -21 degrees, and in 41 degree heat when my period decided to arrive before. I really recommend the mooncup (soft cup link above). Very Very unlikey to leak if used correctly and with the aid of some painkillers you'll forget your on your period at all. Came in handy in the Arctic circle as I couldn't remove my clothes every few hours like I would have had to do with pad's etc.

Glad to hear everything is clear. I liaise with Cervical Check as part of my job so for anyone else who is confused about the results process, this is how it works:

-The results are posted to your doctor roughly a week after the cervical smear is carried out and if it is abnormal your doctor will contact you.

-If there are no abnormalities your doctor does not contact you and you will get a letter from Cervical Check around 4 weeks later.

The main thing is no news is good news, if anything is detected your doctor will contact you. My advice if you are worried would be to contact your doctor to query the results after a week.

    Hey guys,

Not sure if this is in the right place, if not mods please move and I'm sorry.

I started taking the pill, Microlite, on 8th March. I lost my virginity about 3 hours after taking the 8th pill and we didn't use a condom. He didn't cum inside me but I took the morning after pill the very next day which was about 26 -27 hours after. Am I safe enough or is it likely I'll get pregnant? I'm a little worried. I know it says 7 days on the insert of the pill but still, I am a little worried.

    Thanks.

OP here. Just another quick question. I'm on my pill free week this week, my last pill was Monday. I had sex with my bf on Saturday/Sunday and Sunday evening I had some bleeding which I thought was from the sex because I haven't lost my virginity that long ago and I'm still getting used to it. It actually seems that I have started my period which would mean I started my period the day before my last pill. It's probably breakthrough bleeding or should I be worried? Am seeing my bf again this Saturday and we plan on having sex, am I still protected from pregnancy this week? My bf seems to be allergic to every type of condom he tries. I didn't miss any pills, all of them were taken between 9am and 9.30am everyday.

    Thanks.

Has he tried non laytex condoms?
Skyns or avanti are the ones to look out for most chemists have them.

When your on the pill esp for the first time it can take several cycles for your body to settle down, if your not sure then do a pregnancy test.

she will measure around your ribs under ya boobs and usually guess the cup size she goes finds you a bra and you try it on so the clerk doesnt actually see ya boobs as such just the bit clevage so do go with all ya clothes ;)

They measure both around the largest part of your bust and under your bust. Based on your back size and the difference between the measurement around your bust they will establish your cup size. Then obviously you'll have to try on different bras because although they have been sized by the manufacturers, it's the same as buying a generic size 12 - how many people own clothes varying from one or two sizes above to one or two sizes below their "size"?

Stupidusername, many places where you get measured will understand the discomfort of standing in a changing room practically topless, and most will even measure over your tshirt if you're really not comfortable with being measured in your bra, although from experience most people in lingerie fitting are very nice and will put you at ease if they can, and will have seen it all before.

If they start adding inches on to your backsize, if you can fit more than two fingers under your band when the bra is on it's loosest setting in the shop, if your bra is uncomfortable and they don't listen, if you don't fill the cup and they're still insisting it fits, or if the bra doesn't rest against your breastbone, buy nothing and leave. Your underwire should run from your breast bone, under your breast the whole way into your armpit area. If it ends before your armpit you're putting pressure on breast tissue which is dodgy! (This is advice I've been given by a lingerie expert, and I used to hate wearing a bra until I followed it. Now I barely know I'm wearing it, apart from the perkiness, and the fact that my shirts no longer gape!)

I know some people swear by M&S but from personal experience, and the experience of friends, they're shocking. Arnotts used to be excellent, but it's almost a decade since I've been measured there. Brown Thomas in Limerick are alright, in Dublin are ok, no experience of Cork or Galway. Clerys was all over the place last time I was there, and I have no experience of going to La Senza or their ilk. My favourite place to get measured is a lingerie boutique called Vamp on Thomas St. in Limerick, but regardless of where you choose to get measured make sure they know what they're doing and you're comfortable with them. My suggestion would always be to go to a specialist - you will spend more time wearing a bra than not wearing a bra, and in my 17 years of experience there's nothing as uncomfortable as a bra that doesn't fit.

Im sorry if there are already other topics on this but I would really like some advice on what to do!

Im 17 and I've had my period for just over 3 years and it is still incredibly irregular... sometimes it comes every 50 or so days then others it doesn't come for about 70 days, then it my come again 20 days later and it's so frustrating :(:(

I'm never prepared because I just simply can't predict it and I don't know what to do... I thought after a while your periods became regular or do I have to wait even longer for that to happen? Is this unusual or has anyone else experienced this?

Help & advice would be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

Yes it's normal. My periods didn't settle down until I started taking the pill - when i was 17, my periods started when I was 12, so that was 5 years of lying on my back on a cold floor to get relief and taking useless painkillers.

Even yet I haven't found one that relieves it fully, apart from a hot whiskey or a drag of a good spliff (which is rare enough).

Anyway - best bet is to carry a pad or tampon in the wee zip pocket of your bag, although when mine comes on suddenly, reels of toilet paper does the job until greener pastures are reached.

    Hi,

There's not really a time frame to when your periods will regulate themselves, some people's never do.

I was the same, started my period at 14 and they were all over the place right the way up until I went on the pill at 22!!

If it's really bothersome for you maybe have a chat with your Dr. he/she might suggest going on the pill to regulate them, if it's something that you would consider.

Other than that I think you just have to wait and see.. as annoying as it is :) And just make sure, as the above poster said - to carry around a tampon/pad just in case!

If you take your 21 pills every day, roughly around the same time, without missing a day then you should be covered for the full 28 days (even the days you're not physically taking a pill). I use the pill as my sole form of contraception and so far so good *knocks on wood* :pac:

Also bleeding the day before you stop isn't necessarily a sign that anything is wrong, I've had the same happen a few times. It's if you completely miss a period you should just do a test to be safe.

Obviously though nothing is ever 100%, and if you're not using condoms its important you keep a spare pack of your pill to take a spare one if you experience vomiting or diarrohea. Also, the pill doesn't work if you're on anti-biotics (apparently this is common knowledge but my doctor never told me this so I didn't find out for a good year after starting the pill)

    Hi
Just wondering if anyone has had a colposcopy recently? I had one yesterday, was told it would be 8-10 weeks before I get results, how long did anyone else have to wait?
How did ye feel after? I had a biopsy yesterday, so feeling a bit sore today, like period pain, crampy and burny is this normal? Did any women out ther ewho had a biopsy have any negative results? what happened then? I guess I'm a bit worried and would love to hear from other women who have had this experience. Thanks.

    Hi everyone.
I recently found out I had an abnormal smear and have been referred on for a colposcopy.
Unfortunately I don't have health insurance so it's a little extra worry on top of the procedure itself!
Does anyone know roughly how much it will cost?
    Thanks for reading!

Hi ebophoto I know this isnt going to be easy for you to do but now you need to put the colposcopy to the back of your mind until the results arrive. I went through 2 years of abnormal smears, colposcopies, laser treatment, more colposcopies to finally get the all clear. Try not to worry. The way you feel today is normal, its like a weird period pain. I got CIN III results and had the laser treatment which really isnt that bad at all.

Try not to worry, hopefully your results will come sooner than 8 weeks. Best of luck

All this treatment is free just like the smear testing so thats one less thing to worry about. Not that you should worry too much, so many women are referred for colposcopies and are fine.

Anyone ever been prescribed cerazette? Been put on it recently and have read a lot of nasty reviews online. I know it's different for anyone but any expereince of it would be helpful :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 310 ✭✭candy19

    Hi there,

I have been on Cerazette now for the last few months and I have found it brilliant. My skin has almost completely cleared up and as well as that I would barely ever get a period, if I do its extremely light and never painful.

Previous to this I was on a few different pills and also the nuvaring, none of which suited me. I used to have very heavy painful peroids, they were also very irregular.

Its different for everyone, but I wouldn't read scare stories on the net, all you can do is give it a go for yourself.

Hope this helps, if you want further info don't hesitate to send me a PM.

    Candy

I've only been on Cerazette for 3.5 months, which isn't really long enough to know if it suits me, but so far I'm happy. It doesn't give me mood problems like combined pills did. At first I had a lot of spotting which is usual, but it cleared up after about 2 months.
