Also check out the Debenhams sales - particularly if you are an odd size, you can find some great bargains when stuff goes to 70% off. I've paid €5-€11 a time for some very nice bras, including at least two Freya ones.

€25 - €30 on a bra?. I need a few of them. I think il try TK maxx first and see if i can pick up something cheap.

I have another question. Sizes seem to be different between shops. I got measured once last year, and headed off to penneys and they were too small.

Spending more money on a bra in a different shop and it could be a waste.

Are there any good shops that perhaps measure you also? I would almost spend the money to avoid hassle and this nightmare of finding a proper fitting bra.

wouldn't even bother getting measured for a bra tbh, okay if you have no idea of your size then go somewhere and get an estimate, but bra sizes vary so much between different brands/shops/etc it's kinda pointless getting measured. Pennies bras are awful, they give absolutely no support, I find their cup sizes teeny and their back sizes huge!. TK maxx is great, that's where I buy most of my bras, definitely have to try bras on to see if they fit, I usually bring 3 different sizes of each bra in fitting room when trying them on, the size I usually am, then one which is a smaller back size, and one which is a larger cup size.

For something as important as my comfort every day, back support, decent fitting cups and straps I wouldn't say €30 is a lot? What price are you wanting to pay for them, for a good one? Penneys stuff is absolute crap, pretty but not good quality at all, it's false economy buying them there, you're wasting your money if you think they will be anything other than pretty bras to wear for a couple of hours to look cute, if you need proper support etc they're no good.

i wouldnt go near penneys or anywhere that cheap for my underwear
    M&S all the way
    good bras
shoulder straps tend to fall down a bit though

I would probably be looking at spending €15-20. Is that do-able? Im looking at buying a new wardrobe of bras, so i would like to go in with €50 and coming out with as much as i can, rather than spending it on one.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,729 ✭✭✭Acoshla

You'd be better off buying one or two good ones to start with than getting quantity over quality. I thought about it again and the bra I have on is actually about 3 years old, I wear it very often every week and feck it in the washing machine all the time and it's still perfect, it was €30 so look at the cost per wear on that over 3 years, compare to my pretty €12 Penneys ones that I've worn twice and given up on, sitting at the back of the drawer.

M&S are fantastic for bras, pretty cheapish and great quality. Id def spend abit more there and get two than getting four or five in Pennys!

Couldn't agree more. Love Debenhams for Bras, there is often a good sale on 2 for 1 that kind of thing. Good investment.

Thanks ladies, i went bra shopping and bought two in debenhams and two in tk maxx. Wore the one from debenhams today and it was so much more comfortable than the bras from penneys.

Hi guys. Need a little bit of help. I took my pill as usual at 9am this morning and I've just had 1 instance of diarrhoea that came on all of a sudden. It was only a small amount and I've taken 2 Imodium capsules a moment ago. I'm on Microlite for the last year or so and it says on the leaflet "If you vomit or have severe diarrhoa within 3-4 hours of taking a tablet...... The situation is almost the same as forgetting a pill. After vomiting or diarrhoa take another tablet ASAP." Should I take another one? It was only 1 instance and it wasn't severe. Any help at all would be appreciated. I have until 9 tonight to take another if I need to, says take within 12 hours of the first one if possible. I'm a little worried about this.

edit: diarrhoea at approx 11am or so.

I would take one just to have yourself covered. I would take one from the end of the pack (last pill) so just buy your next pack a couple of days early.

Thanks so much Lola. I've just done that. I was thinking I should probably run the 2 packs together just to be safe as well.

dont mess around with medication. take the advice 1/ of the leaflet which sets out the situation exactly and 2/ if you're still that concerned talk to your chemist or gp

Just in case I'd take double precautions (condom if it's an option) for a week too, to be sure. I have telephoned a pharmacy before to ask this and they were very helpful.:)

It definitely won't harm you to take two months back-to-back (plus it means you get to skip a period! ;) ) And you should definitely use condoms for seven days too to be on the safe side. No point causing yourself pointless worry over it, always better to be safe!!

apologies if this is in the wrong forum - feel free to move.

I'm just wondering if under the Free National Cervical Smear Programme which states women between the ages of 25-60 are entitled to a free smear test, does this mean the test is free and I have to pay the 55euro doctor's fee... or is the whole visit free?

    thanks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,599 ✭✭✭✭The Princess Bride

100% free ,if you're within specified age group.

Every woman aged between 25 and 60 in Ireland can now have a regular cervical smear test, free of charge through CervicalCheck – the National Cervical Screening Programme. This is an important test, which will take no more than ten minutes, but which could save your life. Regular smear tests aim to detect changes to the cells in your cervix, before they become cancerous.

Women aged between 25 and 60 can have a smear test free-of-charge.

The smear can be taken by a doctor or nurse, however, if you wish to discuss other health concerns with the doctor at the time of your smear, a charge for a consultation will apply.

I had my first smear taken by a nurse last week and it was free as I'm 25. Took not even 10mins

I feel like the only person who actually likes Penneys bras.

Maybe it's just that I've had bad experience with more expensive bras but I don't find anything else as comfortable. I got measured for a "proper" bra, tried loads on, spent nearly €50, wore it for one day and haven't worn it since because of the pain it caused me. I've bought Wonderbra, DKNY, FCUK, loads of expensive brands but I find they loosen up a lot and the straps are never small enough.

The bras I go back to every day are the Penneys ones, despite having a wardrobe of more expensive brands. Perhaps it's because I'm quite a small size and don't need that much support, but I just find them so much more comfortable.

Hi, I need help here, when I started my period, it used to be extremely painful with diarrhea and I felt nauseous. In 2008 I had my child, after I had him the period pain was gone but 9 months later, it came back. Now it's been nearly 3 years that I have horrible pain to an extend that I can't even walk during my period, I saw my Gp several time and he keeps giving birth control pills, he is not being helpful. I did some research on the Internet and I found out about endometriosis, I just hope it's not that so I went back to my Gp but still no help now I want to change him but it's hard to find a Gp I live in sword what can I do? Now even after my period is finished sometimes I get shooting pain in my abdomen.

I have endo, the only way to have it properly diagnosed is through a small surgery. Just go into a different GP and tell them you have awful peroid pain and you want to see a specialist. Insist that they refer you straight away. I was referred to Dr.Geary in the Rotunda and he was very good.

Went to my college doctor in Canada yesterday for the first time, and she asked me a bunch of questions as it was my first visit. She was shocked that I'm 24 and have never had a pap smear, and she made an appointment for me to get the HPV vaccine this week also, all covered under my student health plan.

The Irish system is just appalling sometimes!

That healthcare system sounds amazing, I have never had a smear test either and I'm 25. Must try and book one in the next few months. I have never had the HPV vaccine. I've had unprotected sex with one guy whilest I was on the pill. Does the vaccine not work once you've unprotected sex or can it still work? This might be considered medical advice though.

In fairness to the Irish health system, I've seen tons of posters around advertising the fact that smear tests are free now and who is eligible (can't remember the age range offhand). My GP always asks if I'm due for one when I see her, it's as standard for women my age. If you haven't had one yet then it's not the fault of the health system!

I'd have to agree. The Irish health system has its problems but the smear test is not one of them. It's easily available, and there is lots of information about its necessity etc. Whenever I have gone to see my doctor, she has reminded me about it too.
