Id be interested to see stats on this. I spoke to my GP about it in my late 20s and she told me that elective tubal litigation for a childless woman of my age in this country was effectively nil although it was possible to be referred to clinics in the UK (that was about a decade ago mind you, may have changed since).

Not disputing you, would just be interested in knowing how difficult it really is.

Yeah, they're not going to do it if you're childless and in your 20s.. too likely that things can change later and then where will you be. It's not a country thing as far as I know, they're just being sensible. Too much to be tried that won't cut off your ability to have kids later, if you choose. Late 30s is obviously a different situation.

So anyone that wants a TL in their 20's is senseless? And it is a country thing. Marie Stopes perform TL's on any woman, any age in the UK. Doesnt matter if you have had 0 kids or 20!

I know for a fact that I dont want children. 100% for sure. No hessitations. So why should my (and my partners) decision be undermined?

@Stheno - Thats great news. I plan on making an appointment with the doc in a few months to discuss it. Not sure how its going to be received but fingers crossed. I'm willing to try the coil until I can save the money for the procedure and either have it here or the UK.

Edit - On a seperate note. I came off Ovranette 2 weeks ago (migraine related) and so far eveything is going fine. Had a normal period when I stopped and no spotting so far. Mood hasnt really changed either.

@Zombiemed and Stheno - thanks for the responses.

I came off Mercilon recently and went onto Cerazette - due to non migraine headaches in the week break and "ocular migraines" from time to time (visual disturbance with no headache). I have to say its been life changing. I had a week crossover where I bled a bit and was very emotionally disturbed (crying over anything), but since then - no more period, no more headaches for a week every month, no ocular migraines yet (although they were rare enough so cant say for sure they are gone yet), none of the associated issues with periods, cramps, etc....

Actually, I havent bought a painkiller in months, and I used to be a fairly regular packet of paracetamol buyer.

I'm on Cerazette, and apart from being a tad weepy ( I would always be like that, so I'm not sure is it down to it or just me!) and unable to pronunce the bloody name!!! I'm happy out....fair enough I'm in my first month of it, but no complaints so far, and I won't lie - I was worried before hand based on reviews!

Hi, just wondering if anyone here has had any experience taking evening primrose oil to counteract hormonal issues with the pill, and if it was effective?

I've been on Dianette for about three months (having tried it and other pills) as my skin is in bad shape. So far, so good - the mood swings have been minimal compared to Cerazette, and I'm not pregnant! My skin isn't clearing yet unfortunately, but I guess it could take up to six months to see any real difference. I've started to get bad cramps during my period, however. Also I've started getting tender lumps in my breasts, which the doctor has put down to the pill, and she suggested the EPO (I'm also waiting on an ultrasound appointment). I've just started taking it this week.

So my question is, has anyone who has taken EPO with a pill found that it helped with cramping, tender breasts and acne?

I have taken EPO and Starflower oil in a combo tablet. I do find it helps. I took Dianette before for many years for skin issues. Dianette did not work for me though:mad:

I just received a call from the nurse to say my Smear results came back abnormal and showed I have CIN 1.

I was a little shocked and I am in work at the minute so I didn't think to actually ask any questions other than "Should I be worried" to which she replied no. She told me to go back in June for another Smear and they will take it from there.

I decided I would Google it at lunch and now I'm thinking is CIN 1 a result of an STD?
She didn't mention anything like that to me on the phone, could my OH have picked up something as a result of me having this?

    Don't most men carry HPV?
Always wondered why they vaccinated girls against it, instead of boys.

I got put on dianette to improve my skin, but the doctor also gave me a gel called 'Duac Once Daily' and it's been *brilliant*- I saw huge improvements within the first week of using it. Worth asking your doctor for it, although just buy one or two tubes at a time, as it expires within two months

I actually used Duac gel before, with antibiotics for my skin, and I don't think it had much of an effect tbh. I use Quinoderm 5 along with the pill and it works okayish, but any topical treatment seems to decline in effectiveness after a while, unfortunately.

I used to use the Duac Once Daily too, but (and I know this sounds stupid) having to keep it in the fridge meant I kept forgetting to use it. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess.

I've been using quinoderm 5 for the past two days and it's helping a lot! I'm in the very flaky stage, but fingers crossed that'll settle.

I didn't know you're supposed to keep it in the fridge, maybe that's why it didn't work :o

Yeah the more you use it, the less it dries your skin out. In the first few days you think your skin is going to peel off :pac:

Yep. Well, unless it's changed in the last six months?

Hi! Just looking for some experiences and not medical advice!

Just wondering if anyone has had any particularly bad side effects while they were on Cilest?

My sister is 17 and she's on it and tends to get these very bad mood swings. Happy out one moment and the next she's snapping! My boyfriends's sister is 18 and she's on it too. She tends to cry and gets emotional and upset. For example: She was on holidays recently and cried for 5 days out of 2 weeks and would get upset in school and have to leave! Has anybody else had experiences like this on Cilest? Any bad mood swings or anything of the sort?

I'm not sure if it's even caused by the pill, or just hormones (or a mix of both) but the way they both go on sometimes does worry me! Thanks!

I took it before I was on the pill and it really helped with cramps, tender breasts, aches & pains, mood swings and generally crappiness. It didn't make any change to my skin whatsoever though, I had acne the entire time I was on it, but it was certainly worth taking for the huge change it made to how I felt on my period.

Yeah I'm on my period now and while my breasts were sore last week, they're grand now as I've been on the EPO for over a week. The cramps and skin were still bad enough, but my mood was much better than it usually is at this time of the month. I think I'll stick with it :)

On my tube of Duac is says that pharmacists should store it in the fridge and once opened it should be kept somewhere under 25 degrees?

Stopped taking Duac after breaking out in a really bad rash :(

Mine says store in refrigerator as directed. That sucks that you broke out in a rash from it. I find it helps heaps in a very short amount of time

I use Duac too. I just keep it in my bedside locker. I find it's grand so long as it's not kept beside a radiator or anything. :)

Can anyone recommend a decent female doctor on the southside, who doesn't charge an arm and a leg for a consultation/bloodwork?

Would like to get a regular doctor up here. Am based in Sandyford but working in Clonskeagh, so would be handy to be able to go the doc on my lunch break.

    PM me if you want!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,484 ✭✭✭username123

Ah_yeah - Im posting this on thread as opposed to pm as it may help others.

I changed GP last year and one of the reasons was cost. I ended up going with Primacare - who have a number of clinics around the place. You can apply for a loyalty card and it gives you a discount on consultation. In addition, I have found them to be very sound regarding pricing and for example, I have only been charged 30 euro for any consultation for a pill prescription (even though in theory it should have been 40 euro but the doc feels if I wasnt 'sick' she didnt diagnose anything so only a prescription charge) and Ive had follow up appointments for things for free as well. Compared to my last GP who charged 60 quid and it didnt matter if you only wanted a prescription, or it was a follow up, or what - I am finding Primacare much better financial value. The have a website, google and you will see their different locations.

Mods - if a GP recommendation is not allowed on thread, please remove.

I came off the pill around christmas, had a period and now my next period is due (if we go by a 28 day cycle).

How often does your cycle just go back to normal straight away? Most people on the net seem to say its taken them months to get back to normal/have a period at all.

Ive had no side effects at all yet. Today I feel really tired for some reason (not something I normally get with a period) but I dont feel any pre period cramps or anything.

Guess I'm just looking for other peoples experiences. I'm not worried yet as its only been a month.

Here's my experience of coming off the pill 4 years ago.

Finished my last pack in early January and bled at normal. It was 62 days before I had my first proper period. The next cycle was 74 days and the third was shaping up to be 83, but I got pregnant (that was the aim).

I've only heard of one person going back to their regular cycle straight away and well up in the double digits with the opposite experience.

It can be incredibly frustrating, but it will settle down again. I honestly would give it a year.

Thanks Das Kitty. However, just before I went to bed last night it started! I was quite surprised. I really was expecting to not get one for a while. I mean I'd been on the pill for 10 years, although I dont know if that makes a difference.

I wont get my hopes up yet, but its a good start at least.

Edit - btw were not trying to conceive. Just had to stop because of occular migraines.
