Does anyone know, can you get the bar in your arm fitted at any time, or does it have to be a certain time of the month? And do you need to see a specialist or do all GPs do it? Also, how sore is it getting it put in? :o

I wouldn't stress. It sounds like you have had quite a bit of stress over the while and I know that effects my flow. Go to the GP and get it checked out x

You're supposed to get it in during your period, but that's only so you're sure you're not pregnant - they can just do a pregnancy test there to confirm it if you can't go at that time. Lots of GPs do it, and I'd go to someone who does lots of them if I were you because one of the main causes of ineffectiveness for the implant is incorrect insertion, because once it's in you don't do anything else! But you can ask when you go for the first visit (because you have to get a prescription for it and then go back when you've bought it) if they do a lot of them or if not, if they can recommend someone who has.

And not sore at all, they give you a local anaesthetic, but it can be pretty bruised and tender for a few days afterwards. Hope that helps!

    Hey everyone,

So I currently take Cerazette, and have been doing so sequentially for about six months. I was also on Cerazette for about a year previously. I am unable to use the combined pill due to a history of breast cancer in the family.

The first time I was on Cerazette, I began feeling very depressed and had constant anxiety. I thought it was just my personal circumstances at the time. A short while after I came off Cerazette the dark spell cleared up. Now that I have restarted it, it is back with a vengeance and I don't think that it would be healthy for me to continue with it.

I was considering getting Implanon fitted (actually have the device, just waiting to get the money together for the fitting) and want to know if there are any other women out there who have experienced depressive symptoms on Cerazette and moved on to the implant. Did you see any improvement in your symptoms?

Or, are there any women who initially experienced these symptoms, and had them clear up eventually? If so, about how long did it take?

    Thanks for reading.

Hi I was on cerrazette and got awfully low on it v depressed and complete loss of libido. I can't take the combined pill due to migraines so researched other options. I got the implanon put in a month ago. So far I love it. I've had no period, I've lost weight , my skin has cleared up and my mood perfect. Implanon uses a different type of progesterone to cerrazette. I would definitely recommend discussing it with your doctor to see if it might be an option for you

Thanks so much for your input, LittleFox! Wouldn't want to have to switch to a barrier only method as I feel a lot more secure with hormonal contraception. I've heard the same from a few other people so it's looking like I will switch to the implant once I get the cash together to get it fitted.

Just went for my smear test there, was putting it off for a while. It was completely grand, I was nervy cos had to go to a new practise but was only mildly uncomfortable and seriously took no time at all.

Nurse said if all is ok I'll get a letter in 4 weeks. I recall last time it arrived a bit sooner than expected. Anyone got any recent experience of this? I'm moving abroad soon so it'd be great to (hopefully) have the all-clear well in advance, or on the other hand have time to go for another if need be.

I had mine at the start of the summer and got the results way faster than I was expecting. I think I had it on a Friday and got the letter on the Monday week, so 10 days or so.

I was buying month on month up until recently aswel. Couldn't believe how much cheaper it was to buy the 6months.

Just on that note Boots have the lowest dispensing fee of all pharmacies, it's only about €24 for my 6 month pill prescription.

I was on it about 6/7 years and came off it without any side effects. It took maybe 6 weeks for periods to start back. Big shock to me was having ovulation pain again. I did go to my doctor for advice once I decided to go off it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 737 ✭✭✭Morgase

I was on it for 9 years and no real side effects apart from acne getting a bit worse (which was expected, as the pill was helping with that).

I've been on Microlite since January, and up till then I've had pretty good skin, I never had a problem with pimples at all until about 2/3 months into taking microlite. Now I've been getting quite big, long-lasting ones on my face that are threatening to scar :( Has anyone else had this problem with Microlite? I'm going to try and get the pill changed, but, there's no other problems, so, do you think it's worth it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,341 ✭✭✭czechlin

I was on the pill for about 7 years and it took a while for the cycle to settle. And I have experienced the real period pains, so have to pop the painkiller the first day when I get it, the second day is slightly uncomfortable and then it's fine. Other than that I feel much better being off it. (except the constant worry of the possibility getting pregnant:mad:)

Can anyone recommend a permanent method of hair removal for very thick coarse facial hair? It's so bad that I need to shave my face daily. (Yes, I shouldn't have started in the first place, but I've done so for years now - no turning back.)

The hair is fairly dark, my skin is fairly pale. I would need to continue shaving daily throughout the treatment - I just couldn't leave the house otherwise, and I have a job.

I often see Therapie offering 90% off laser hair treatment - does this sound like a good option? Are there better methods out there?

Just wondering has anyone here ever used the Jaydess coil? Any good, bad or indifferent experiences with it? Im due to have it fitted next month and finding it hard to locate any information on the web that doesn't come from either the US or England. Its slightly different to the Minera but for all intents and purpose does the same thing. Thanks in advance.

Had mine fitted today. I had a failed attempt last month but I went back today on day one of my cycle and there was no problem getting it in.
On three occasions during the fitting there was a high discomfort level but only for a few seconds. I won't say it was painful just very uncomfortable.
I'm home now and having some cramping but nothing worse than moderate period pain.
My gp recommened jaydess because I haven't had a vaginal birth and jaydess is smaller.
It was only the second time the gp placed the jaydess (although obviously well used to fitting mirena) and he commented that it was much easier to get in.

Minimal hormones so I'm hoping no crazy mood swings etc.
Have to avoid sex for seven days to minimise risk of infection but after that should be good for three years.

I need boob advice. As you may be aware I'm going through a "second puberty" (I'm trans.) I don't have significant boobs yet, they're not much different to big moobs (I'm big.) However my nipples are getting pointy at times. They're poking through the material of my tops. I think people have even roundaboutly commented on them. I don't need the support of a bra, I'm having no difficulty with bouncing or anything like that. But I don't feel very comfortable with my nipples pointing through, especially if people are talking about it.

Someone recommended me a "bralette." I've never heard of them and don't know where to get them. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know what a bralette is tbh. But I would suggest either using the nipple flowers you can get http://www.boots.ie/en/Eylure-Nipple-Covers_1211280/.

Or you can go for a wireless bra which should help. Though if I am honest. I would just go for a normal slightly padded bra. Get measured properly and they will stop looking like moobs and start looking like boobs! :)

I'd love to need a bra (even if the thought of wearing one is hella scary.) I just don't think they make 44 A/B bras. :(

Just a quick google http://www.herroom.com/44a,bras,44a,001,14.html try that website. The women in M and S are just lovely, they might not mind measuring you for buying elsewhere.

Also, another option. A sports bra, that can prevent nipplage. Good luck! (And honestly, don't be scared, where anything with confidence and you will be fine)

As shalala said, I find M&S fitters pretty good. They're usually bang on with my size and are very friendly. I think it helps as well that they tend to be slightly older ladies so they don't make me as self-conscious. AFAIK the biggest back size M&S does is a 44 and I'm not sure what cup sizes they do to match, but at least get a fitting done.

If you're not ready to have a stranger measure you, try to at least get a friend to help you, as measuring yourself accurately is tough. There's a subreddit that has instructions for a different way of measuring yourself.

Unfortunately, bra sizes can be a little like clothes sizes, in that your size in one brand or style might not be your size in others. That's why I prefer to try on in person if I can, but as I'm plus size I sometimes find it hard to get my size in stock, so I buy online as well. When I know the size I am in a brand I'm happy enough to buy from Figleaves, but lately I've been buying from Littlewoods. I know they're expensive, but they do offer free returns, so it's easy enough to send things back if they don't fit.
Is this the right place to post about vaginismus or is there a more appropriate forum?
I think here is okay. It seems to be where similar issues go.

My daughter is going through puberty and we're also at the stage of not needing support but having to do something or the nips can be seen.
At the moment she's in sports bra type things. They just kind of smooth out the area so she can wear t shirts and not have them peeking out.

I'd suggest looking for a crop vest type bra. You can get them in Heatons, pennys etc. Think jml do one. They're usually sized s/m/l/xl as opposed to by cup size as the breast holding part is very stretchy so would probably support the smallest cup size too. Don't spend too much if your breasts are going to get bigger. A good bra is important but you're in a transition period now and might need to change bra size regularly enough so personally until I needed support I'd just go with cheap and cheerful to be honest.

Had mine fitted a little while back. Got my appointment soon after posting and as luck would have it, I was in the correct part of my cycle. Like you, I wouldn't call it painfull, just highly uncomfortable. The only difference with my experience, was that I had mine fitted in hospital as none of my local gps felt comfortable fitting it as I have never had a vaginal birth either. And hopefully wont thanks to the jaydess:-) Still having a little cramping, but over all I don't even know its there. Thanks for commenting and mind yourself for the next few days. That's one thing I didn't do and suffered the cramps for it afterwards.

I'm thinking about going on the pill to help with bad cramps. What should I expect when I go to the doctor? College doctor if that makes any difference

Weight, blood pressure checked. Quick discussion. Barring any issue with either the doctor will prescribe one to suit your requirements.

Urbana have the best laser treatment I've found in Dublin - they use a different type of laser which I believe is better than Therapie's. They will also give you a consult to check whether you are suitable - I really wanted to get laser on my face but was told my hair was not coarse enough.

If I were you I'd get a consult for laser first, but if it doesn't work out then the only option beyond that is probably electrolysis.
