Has anybody who has been on yasminelle experienced these side effects? If so is the acne bad? Is the weight gain much? I'm really scared!
The only weight I ever gained on Yasminelle was the weight I put on because I had a running injury that took well over a year to clear up at the same time. I gained a little weight on the first pill I was on (Ovranette) and it didn't properly come off until last year. Never really had much acne after age 20 so not much to report on that front!

Did any of ye lose weight?

No weight change between coming off Cerazette and starting Yasminelle, lost around 1.5kg when I came off Mercilon altogether, low dose pills never made me put on much.

Yeah he's a few years older than me and he actually has a really good job but I suppose I do think it's unfair the way he talks about condoms...if it's so un-fun with one on then he shouldn't mind just not sleeping with me at all

Ask him to get an STI check, and you get one too.

Then when the results are back, if it's clear, consider non barrier contraception

Are you aware that you have other options than the pill? You've the injection, the implant, the nuvaring, the female condom all to consider.

Most of those are lower dose hormones than most pills.

And find another doctor. My gynaecologist has a large practice with a lot of young women who use the mirena as they plan to go travelling for a couple of years.

She has no problem prescribing it for them

I started taking Cerazette, I took it for the first month (starting it on the first day of my period) and then didn't get around to going to the pharmacist to collect the next pack for a few days. The pharmacist said instead of continuing with it to wait until I got a period. I had some very light breakthrough bleeding for a day or two but no period, and the light bleeding has stopped now. I'm tempted to just start taking it now anyways and just be careful for the next seven days, anyone know if there'd be a problem with doing this? Otherwise for all I know I could be waiting weeks till I get a period.

I wouldn't take the risk to be honest. You could mess up your hormones and the timing of your periods big time. It's a pain but I'd definitely follow their advice.

sorry if this is not the right place to ask

I am on day 21(my last pill) of my oral contraceptive (microlite) but lost the pack. I took all the other pills fine. Is it okay to just start my 7 day break today and start the next pack a day earlier?

okay so maybe this is the wrong place but I hope someone can help me out! recently got prescribed dianette by the doctor (hopefully to help clear up some spots and facial hair, suspect I have psoc!) But just reading up now and some of the side effects and peoples experiences seem awful! A common side effect is depression which runs in my family so I'm just a bit wary to go onto this pill. Has anyone any experience with it (I know it can affect different people differently) but any advice at this stage would be fab :)

Short answer: yes. Was on it for acne and some pcos symptoms myself (mainly no periods). Definitely think it made my depression worse (not sure it caused it). Psychiatrist suspected it mixed badly with my antidepressants so took me off. Went back on it after a few months because it's the only pill that treats acne apparently.

I'm off it again now. Asked to be, cause I'd been on it a few years and was concerned about the side effects. Also, it was banned in France in the last few years for being linked to deaths. Won't be touching it again, personally. I'm on Yasmin now to induce bleeding as I've no period without the pill. There are other treatment options for pcos. Probably best to get officially diagnosed with it (basically involves blood test and ultrasound). You might get referred on to an endocrinologist. I see mine once a year (don't need it much as I'm not trying to get pregnant). There are medications that can help like metformin. There are also good forums out there to get information on, like soulcysters.

Also, the key for pcos is weight management! :D

I was on it for bad skin as well. Didn't have any side effects as such but when I found out there was anti-androgens in it I stopped as wanted to get it out of my system long before deciding to have kids. Basically I generate an absolute heap of testosterone so that's what the anti-androgens battles.

I went on Yasmin (prior to having baby & again after finished breastfeeding) and have found that to be fine. Don't notice any side effects.

To be honest, I do better on the pill as my natural hormones are probably a bit unbalanced & is something I should really sort out in the long run! I get depressed & a bit crazy when I've off it.

My skin has been fine on Yasmin so it ticks the boxes.

Keep an eye on yourself for signs of depression, as suggested by your doctor.

I stopped taking the pill last month and, by god, my sex drive has skyrocketed. Is this usual?

Yes, taking the pill has been proven to reduce women's libido significantly. Makes sense as we're essentially suppressing our natural cycles.

Thanks. It does make sense when you think about it. It's quite weird though, I feel like a horny teenager. I don't even remember being like this when I was a teenager!

I'm on the progesterone-only pill at the moment and I'm definitely more aware of my cycle than on the combined pill. It's amazing how many girls and women probably don't experience the normal ebb and flow of ovulation etc and never realise it!

The pill absolutely smothers my sex drive! So I ended up getting the copper coil a wee while ago. It's still settling but no issues with libido so far. Himself thinks it's literally the best thing that's ever been invented. NO BABIES. I love science.

You know, that's something I've actually never thought about before. I've never been on the pill (lesbianism is convenient for some things, at least!) but I've been tracking my period for about ten years as I used to have issues with irregular and excruciatingly painful periods and at this stage I know without consulting a calendar when I'm ovulating, when my period is due, if it's going to arrive a few days early etc. because I can feel it. It never occurred to me that the pill would prevent that.

You know exactly when your period is due with the pill, but no, you don't really 'feel' it coming. My first cramping in years wasn't much fun though.

I decided to come off partly because I'm not in a relationship so it's a waste of money and partly because over the last couple of years my periods have gotten lighter and lighter and I want to see if going back to my 'real' cycle will sort that out. I know it sounds weird to give out about light periods but they'd gotten to the stage where they were pretty much non-existent.

Depends on which POP I'd say. Some suppress ovulation and some don't.

This is why I never want to go back on the pill :P

I was on various ones for years, the last one really didn't agree with me at all so I took a break (almost 2 years ago) and my mood and sex drive improved so much!

Just to point out, weight management is NOT the "key" to pcos. I thought people had moved on from blaming everything on your weight.

I don't think the poster was blaming anything on weight, weight gain is often an effect, not a cause of PCOS. But it is true to say that weight management does often ease the symptoms.

Does anyone have experience of recurrent thrush?

I've been suffering on and off for a while now and when OTC treatments didn't work I went to the doctor.

I was examined and told, yep, it's thrush, and given a prescription. But it didn't clear up fully so I went back and a different doctor took a swab which turned out to be clear! (At the time my symptoms were much improved but I felt it wasn't fully gone.)

So the doctor has said there's nothing more she can do for me and referred me to a specialist so I'm waiting to get an appointment. In the meantime, the symptoms have come back fully and I am 99% sure it is thrush. Not sure why the swab would be clear though.

So I don't know what to expect from the specialist - it seems like overkill to go if it is thrush but my GP won't see me again.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Or has anyone had success with natural remedies? I'm pretty miserable about the whole thing. :(

I absolutely was not blaming PCOS on weight. I was diagnosed with PCOS seven years ago - I'm aware of the ins and outs of it. I'm aware of the dangers of misinformation - I was told (at the age of 15) that I had caused my PCOS by being overweight. Obviously that is not the case.

However, the fact remains that the best thing one can do to try to control the symptoms of PCOS is to try to keep weight the same/lower it a small amount or as much as possible to a healthier range.

I've seen doctors and specialists. I've researched it myself. I'm overweight. I know how hard it is to lose weight with the condition - I haven't been completely successful myself. I take medication to help control my insulin resistance and to try to help me lose some weight. It *is* the medical advice for the condition at the minute, though.

Whether you like it or not, women with PCOS are prone to weight gain. That weight gain often exacerbates the symptoms of the condition. Until they work out more about PCOS and how to treat it, a decent diet and some exercise is the most concrete thing to do. One should try at least not to gain loads of weight if attempting to control symptoms (if possible, obviously).

I've done this cycle a few times - get into relationship, start taking pill, lose sex drive, get down, lose relationship, stop taking pill, sex drive comes back with a vengence.... it's just cruel

Definitely change your pill ladies. Cilest did that to me but I changed years ago and the difference was unreal.

I'm just thinking how pissed my ex would be; he always complained about not enough sex. Little did either of us know that one of the things allowing a free sex life was also inhibiting it!
