Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

MINI also to enter WRC in 2011 / 2012....
MINI is making a comeback on the international rally circuit. From 2011, the brand will compete at selected rounds of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) and will go on to contest the entire season from 2012 onwards. This involvement is planned for several years.

    Great for the sport...

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Very interesting! Do you reckon it's been an oversight from BMW in the licensing agreement to not exclude the 9 2 from WRC?

" If Saab returns to the WRC, they will likely use a modified version of the new 92. Expected to be built on the MINI Cooper platform

Saab owned by Spyker using a Mini platform owned by BMW . You wanna keep up with the times philstar or you're gonna fall behind :D

..call us when you've owned one...I do, and GM or no, it's still nicer than a Passat.

...p.s. it may be of interest to you to know that GM aren't involved in Saab anymore, either..

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Pfffttt! Not any more. Anyhows, as galwaytt even a GM-93 is nicer than a bloody Passat/Avensis

Seriously though - Saab in WRC...should they not be concentrating on the bread-and-butter issues of getting competitive new 9-2 and 9-3 models to market? Or maybe they need he boost in profile a WRC entry would bring. Especially as the series is getting a boost with a number of new manufacturers. In this way the 9-2 is shadowing the MINI...

I suppose they're taking a leaf out of Subaru's book.

Before the Impreza won the World Championship, most people thought the only car Subaru made was a useless POS called the Justy. Now the Impreza is a cult classic, and while they've ballsed up the current form of the car, i have no doubt that its WRC entry boosted sales and publicity to a fairly large degree.

If people see the 9-2 in the paper going sideways around a muddy corner, and doing well in the championship, it may open eyes. It may swing people from the Mini or 500 or other alternatives. It may even swing the gullible from the Insignia or Mondeo into a 9-3.

On top of all this, and more importantly in my book, its a great step forward for the WRC - two fairly large greats of the past making a return to the sport.
