Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Pulling Data off a hardrive

Is there anyone or anywhere in Galway that can pull data off a broken hardrive? Obviously it depends on the extent of the damage; but I'd just like to know if anyone can do it locally. It's happened to me before and I had to get it sent to Dublin, where it was extremely expensive.

I'm just wondering if there's anyone in Galway who would do it cheaper? Some very important data on this hardrive:(

I'm assuming the data is just corrupted and there is no physical damage ?

There are a number of data recovery software out there, check computers and tech forum. Can't think of any off the top of my head.

I could probably do it for you. Is it on an external drive or internal ?

It's an external hardrive. It was sitting on the desk, and then it just started making noise. The computer would recognise it for a few seconds, but would then lose it again. It's on a different computer now and it's being recognised for a little bit longer, so I'm pulling the data off bit by bit. I might be able to get it all (didn't know that when I posted in the first place)

This is the second time it's happened in a month:(

Well it's obvious that the drive is about to die so this is probably your last chance to get the data off it. If you have no success PM me and I'll have a look. It'll probably take time so I'll be demanding at least a bottle of wine lol.

Thanks a million muppetkiller. If I need you I'll PM you. I had every intention of compensating you for it anyway. Can't ask anyone to work for free:)

Hopefully I'll be able to pull all the data off.

Download and run an Ubuntu CD and you will be able to use ntfs-clone (if it's ntfs) or ddrescue to copy the drive to an image file.

    Download Ubuntu at http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download.

Post back if you want to know more.
