The current weather forecast says that the skies over Offaly should be clear tonight and it will be one of the best places to be to view the "show". :)

Can anyone suggest somewhere good to go bearing in mind it will be the wee small hours. We are looking for low light pollution, good panoramic visibility, parking and no wierdos!

Will be travelling down from Galway as there is way too much cloud cover forecasted here, more or less the same as last night, not stargazing weather in Galway :(

We have no particular destination in mind, just looking for good viewing locations and hoping you wise people on Boards can come up with some options for us. Around a lake would be great provided the views are not interrupted by trees or hills etc.

Hope you get a chance to view it too, ideally 1am to 3am is best and it really has been very spectacular in the past.

Here's the weather forecast for info

TONIGHT ... clear intervals will develop but the best chances for good viewing of the night sky will be in counties like Offaly, Kildare, Laois and the western parts of Dublin and Wicklow. Rural lows could drop to 5-7 C here, and remain near 10 C in coastal southeast Ireland where more cloud is possible. Further west and north, more extensive cloud is likely with patchy drizzle, but also some clear breaks, lows 8-10 C on average. Winds will drop off to NNW 5-10 mph.

    Try here.

Take a right in Ballinasloe heading towards Shannonbridge and then you're only 15 minutes away from Shannonbriodge. Should be a nice setting for some night sky's
