Classic scam mail. I can't believe people still fall for these things though.

    looks very dodgy to me.

I got something very similar "from" O2 a few weeks ago - when I downloaded my emails to outlook, there was a threat in it.

I doubt Eircom would ask for your password anyway, sure they have it!!

The grammar and typos are always a tell-tale sign of a scam.

I think it's a pretty good rule of thumb that no provider will ever need to ask your password in order to do (or check) anything, ever.
And since email is usually sent in unencrypted text, they probably wouldn't ask for it this way even if they did need it.

Sadly as someone who is an old fogey and who is constantly in despair at the lamentable state of spelling, letter writing standards, etc, etc, I wish I could share your confidence:(

I think athe general rule of thumb is that if they use your name its legit, but if you get something like that ts prob fake.

    Reply anyways with something hilarious.

    • Never reply to spam or Phishing (fakes) as it proves you exist and makes your address more valuable.
    • Never have remote content on in email by default as each spam can have a unique single transparent dot remote image to verify your address
    • Never honour "receipt" for receiveing/opening email
Your name can be legitimate as they get your name and address from someone you know that is infected with malware/trojan/virus.

    The General rule is:
NEVER answer an unsolicited email even apparently from a friend (their details and yours can be from a 3rd persons infected PC). Always ring to confirm. Never use the phone number given in an email

Hover mouse on links. If the real domain is not correct in email status bar then it's likely a scam.

I'm not sure we see the same page but this is what I get, and yes my dad had to ring them to change it a while back:
If you have an eircom net account and have forgotten your password or need to change it, you will need to contact our Technical Support department on 1800 203 204.

If you are outside Ireland, you will need to contact eircom net reception on +353 1 7018144 and ask for the Technical Support department.

Before calling Technical Support, please make sure you have the following details ready:

    * Your username or e-mail address.

    AND
    * The security information you provided when you set up your account.

    OR
    * Your current password.

Please note that, for security reasons, passwords can only be given out or changed once account security details have been confirmed. If you do not have security details, Technical Support may, at their discretion, ask for further information relating to the account.

    The first clue is 'Subscriber's'.

Bad and all as eircom are, I think most of the people they have working for them can write correct English.

Looks like you have to have an eircomnet IP to change your password online.
