Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That was one thing i was not looking forward to. Sky's hyperbole and usual cliches and Andy Gray's tiresome jargon!

So then Brad Jones in Anfield.

christ these little Rafa digs every few minutes are already getting tiresome...Andy. We get it. you've repeated your point about 4 million times at this stage.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,316 ✭✭✭✭amacachi

Nasri hobbles off and they're talking about how Andy Gray doesn't like the specificity of calling a player a "holding" midfielder. Then on about how a defender can get sent off in a one-on-one situation. WTF does that have to do with the ****in match? Gonna be muting it soon I think.

That ball from Johnson deserved an end product.

I'm now with ESPN. :) Rafa hasn't been mentioned more than once (and I think that was marginal)

Mascherano couldn't make it anymore obvious that he doesn't want to be there. He can't get near Wilshere who's doing very, very well.

I think Masch has been doing well so far..

    Horrible challenge from Gerrard there.

The likes of Cattermole, Muamba etc would have at least been booked for that.

    I know, I was being sarcastic. :)

Another great bit of commentary there. Corner is taken and headed wide and not a mention about it. The **** are they doing!?

    Nice insight about zonal marking.

Now Andy's on about man for man marking. So whenever we concede from a corner, will they flag it up and exclaim that man for man marking just doesn't work??

Me. I doubt I'd score any goals but the excitement would last longer as the ball flew over the wall.

I was at the Ireland match the other night and Mascherano just wouldn't should up moaning all game. Even when he gave away a blatant free kick, he was still in the referee's face.

He has always used Zonal Marking. Introduced the method to the Swede's when he went there. Here's a wee snippet from a quick search for a quote from him on it.
One of Hodgson’s traits throughout his managerial career has been his supportiveness of zonal marking. In fact, Lars Lagerback, the ex-Sweden coach says that Hodgson was the first person to introduce zonal marking to Scandinavian football.

During his time at Inter Milan, Hodgson’s insistence on zonal marking brought him some unwanted criticism from his players. “I'd been afraid, for example, Beppe Bergomi wouldn't take to my coaching,” explained Hodgson. “He'd won the World Cup and all his life been a man-to-man marker. I wanted him to mark zonally - and play at right-back. But he was very receptive.”

I'd love to hit him a boot in the face every time the referee blows the whistle, because you just know he'll be in his face within 2 seconds.

The first sh!t Gerrard corner of the season

Have no goalkeeper. Put an outfield player on the goalline. Do anything, just keep him off the ****ing pitch. I don't think I can last another season of this ****.

oh, yeah, he hates it. always blamed liverpool's set piece goals on zonal, and now saying Hodgsons methods are totally different, when in fact they share the same philosophy on most things, including zonal.

Dunno if they picked it up on Sky but my comm said that Middlesbrough keeper Brad Jones came in 5mins after kick-off in a fake moustache and glasses and sat down with the non-playing Liverpool players :D
