Health Insurance - now going abroad to work for 2 years

Going abroad to work for 2 years. Just wondering is it necessary to hold onto the VHI health cover here and then take it up on returning? Is this wise? or do you get penalized when you take out a new policy again?

You need to be a resident in Ireland for 180 days to be eligible. Instead, take out VHI Global Assist policy (expensive) and change back to your vhi plan once you return otherwise you will have waiting periods.
