Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Whats the story with some of the shops selling their own branded gear. Was walking last week and a guy went past on a bike wearing a cycle superstore jersey then few days later was in cycleways and saw they had cycleways jerseys, shorts and gloves then saw some girl last sunday in full cycleways kit on the quays

I know ThinkBike in Rathmines have something on their website about organising a cycle club based around the bikeshop. Just seems like free advertising and a way to get repeat customers.

Cycleways have sponsored teams and athletes. I presume the other shops are the same.

whats wrong with bike shops selling their own branded gear? I think i'd prefer to wear their gear rather than a replica team kit or replica Tde France Polka dot jersey.

Never said there was anything wrong with it.

Only makes sense, if a company can have its own branded wear why can't a shop?
If a person wants to wear it I think it works out great for the shop :)

I think he only went as far as "what's the story?" and wasn't openly criticizing anyone for wearing kit from a shop.

I liked the wiggle and PBK stuff, but I'd never wear it.

it's almost as crazy as an internet forum having their own gear.......oh wait

Oh Ok..well in that case, I think the motive for bike shops selling their own kit is profit. I mean they wouldn't sell it if people didn'nt buy it.

maybe thats the question we should be asking. Why do people buy Bike shop branded jerseys?.

I suspect the answer is..why not buy it? if it fits, its good quality, looks good and possibly cheaper than team replica kit, then good luck to them.

There is no rationale other than my own feeling. I'm a brand snob, I make no attempt to hide it. I would happily wear a campagnolo jersey because it conjures up images of tanned cycling adonises in woolen jerseys who ride to sportives with their bikes sitting on the back seats of an Alfa Spider.

Is it any different wearing a bike shop jersey to a bike component manufacturer's jersey? Probably not, but I prefer the image of the second one.

Other than that, wiggle and PBK do sponsor teams, but they are not on the same scale as the likes of a liquigas or a columbia, so that "tongue in cheek" element is removed and I don't really wear the kit if I don't have an affiliation. It's a bit like wearing a UCD jersey playing 5-a-side, there is nothing wrong with it but I can't see why you would choose to wear it unless you are playing for them.
