Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Why do you need such raw power? Do you cycle through a forest at night, or want to melt oncoming traffic :)

If you have money to burn this thing puts out about as much as Chernobyl. http://www.rawoutdoors.co.uk/Models.aspx?ModelID=2720

Petzl are well know amongst mountain climbers.

+1 On petzl, great for unlit country roads, caving and blinding innocent passers-by.

    ^^ This.

Seriously worded, by all means Google to your hearts content but we've done this to death before: run time, battery compatibility, waterproofing, rundown behaviour, brightness, beam pattern, behaviour under severe vibration, operating modes, switch types, helmet vs bar mounting....

You should probably specify your intended use. All of the stuff so far suggested is complete overkill for commuting in a lit city. I have a Magicshine and two Fenix TK11s. The Magicshine is stupid bright (I think real output is ~600 lumens, it claims 900) and cheap. I have had issues with the build quality with part of the clamp breaking and had to improvise. The Fenix has more than enough (~240 on high but the standard 60 would be more than enough in a city or for that matter road in the country when your eyes adapt, I have cycled over 100km in the dark on it in low mode.) Fenix build quality is superb.

Right, they are both Magicshine front lights. For your intended use of forest at night, absolutely the best bang for the buck if you are OK with so-so build quality. Mine has been fine electrically, just this one small bit broke and it has been impossible to get a replacement from DX, I went so far to send the bit back but heard nothing. Communication is prob the issue.

Ive read some of the reviews / compalints and it a bit off putting ........

"Cons: Build quality of battery is very-very bad. I broke it after few usages. Then I fixed it by re-soldering wires and broke it again. And it's not waterproof! Ride over few puddles and battery is dead. So it's better to put it in some cellulosic packing material before riding bicycle.
And it's not so easy to replace 18650 batteries - you need to disassemble battery pack, unsolder old batteries and circuit, re-solder circuit to new batteries and put it in new case."

Which is the better of these two? Anyone have either one?

Thanks. Its time to get lit up.

I'd put a premium on build quality / reliability rather than outright power, especially for offroad lights. Bought some DX lights before for the road, and while the light output was fine, it was too unreliable electrically to have much confidence in it (mode switching / turning off).

Bought a Fenix later, more expensive but absolutely rock-solid.

You get two more modes with the first one (mid and flashing). Will be good if you're into disco. Oh, and a UK plug too. Otherwise pretty much identical.

Take some time to waterproof (sealant etc.) the battery and you'll be fine.
