Leaving home for the first time and need to budget!!
Basically i cant decide what I will need to budget per month/two months for regular bills i.e. gas, electricity and basic cable (including channel 4, itv, bbc etc.). I work full time so will be out of the house from around 9am until around 6pm everyday. Really have no idea how much the basics cost (disgraceful that I don't know this I no :D) but i would really appreciate any advice from people renting :D Any tips would be nice too :D
Also this may sound silly but do all households pay gas?! like if we rent and our apt has an electric shower and electric cooker and storage heaters or even normal central heating will we have gas bills?!!! Sorry guys, this is what happens when you live at home for so long :D:confused::confused:

household bills aren't tat big if you're renting, as alot of the stuff is taken care of by the landlord and factored into the rent.

    you'd have to pay

esb (assuming no gas) average €100 per 2 months

telly €25 per month for a basic sky package (alot of apartment blocks have shared sky dishes now)

internet & phone (having a home phone costs very little extra if you're geting broadband anyway) €35-€55 depending on the exact package

tv licence €160 once a year

after that it's just food and money for 'socialising'

good luck with it anyway, there's nothing like having your own place, even if you're only renting

and rubbish/recycling (say €5/fortnight) food - say €50 (from aldi/lidl Health insurance - say €700 per year transport cost - if mam/day not driving you around and as mentioned above electricity, heating (gas or oil - average house is €1200 per year), fire - coal/sticks - say €5 per week, phone and or internet - if you are not likely to loose you job i say yes - go for it ....but stay at home if job is unsteady (give money up to home instead of some landlord) - i would estimate that a third of a wage would go on bills. good luck

I agree with The Groutch's estimates. Things like turning off the lights in unnoccupied rooms and not using small fan heaters will help.
