Long aul season ahead if we don't strenghten. Can't really take any positives from this to be honest.

We look sluggish. Our tactics are all wrong and we'll be found out week in and week out.

Do you think Barton looks like John Cleese with that tash?

Superb overall performance from United with Scholes just incredible. You can't be anything but impressed by that against a Newcastle United team that I think most are underrating.

Is Carroll going to be the main man for Newcastle up front or do they have some striker on the way or maybe injured. Game lad but don't think he'll get many goals at this level.

    Joey Barton in 6 months . .

I think he will get a lot of goals, I was impressed by his movement and hunger, looks very confident too. Like he is not going to be facing Vidic every week.

Newcastle were shocking. They really need a striker or two so they can stay up. Their forward line is shocking.

And Kevin Nolan went into hiding obviously! If he is their creative midfielder all hope is lost!

Brilliant from Utd though and Scholes in particular.

Paul Scholes is a joy to watch tbh.

On his day, he's still the best midfielder in the premiership.

    I feel dirty.

Richard Keys forever sticking the knife into Newcastle's side when they're down.

    Overrating another perhaps?

Looks like an average Championship player to me.

Well a 21 year old championship player had a couple of good chances against the best defense in the country.......

    Ah yeah must be rubbish

Meh. I'd rather him sticking the knife in than have him standing over us **** in our face every week.

    Fcuking horrible image. *shudders*

Based on tonight it's absoloutley impossible to tell.

From the bit of movement, seems to have a nice touch, lost vidic with ease.

I think he'll get goals, but I wouldn't put a lot of money on it.

Newcastle looking every inch the the Championship team. Even with Rooney and Berbatov putting in a poor performance United cruise to 3 nil.

    Toon, going down, going down!

    Chelsea have a better defense.

What are you trying to say?

    - He missed aload of chances
    - He is a 21 year old Championship player
    - He is quality...?

Who said he was rubbish only yourself? Cope onto yourself.

Good win for us but I would have liked us to test there goalie more. For all the possesion we only managed 4 attempts on target! Think we need to give the players more licence to shoot. Jos looked abit suspect at times but apart from that good performance!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,306 ✭✭✭✭Drumpot

Scholes must be going mad . . Two man of matches in a week means two interviews on tv in a week . .

Why do I enjoy his interviews more then any other ?

Lucky for us we didnt have to listen to Jamie Redknapp giving scholes backhanded compliments . .

What exactly did he do with said chances?

what did rooney do with his???? Is he a championship player. actually by that logic against a "championship" defense maybe he should be in league one?

sorry lad, your talking poo, judging a player after one game, pfttt

    berba with most of his?

    what does that mean?

    they're brutal sell them quick?

If Newcastle want to stay up, they need some proper forwards. The likes of Carrol, Ameobi and Nolan, won't keep them up that is for sure.

We looked abysmal out there today.

First 20 minutes we were set up well but our discipline mixed with some shocking defending cost us the first goal.

Heads dropped and we conceded another.

Can't really take a whole lot of positives from today's game. We need to change our tactics. If we were planning to have a counter attacking tactic in place against Manchester United then we were doomed from the outset.

We need to strenghten at the back and quickly.

Congratulations on the win Man United fans. Thoroughly deserved. We need to regroup and assess ourselves. It doesn't get any easier for ourselves with Villa at home next weekend.

What chances are people are taking about?

He had one simple header, bar that all he done was lose the ball and make poor shots from ridiculous angles.

Someone mentioned movement...his movement was very poor when Newcastle tried to counter attack.

Snap, Newcastle were poor, Carrol looked reasonable in a team who struggled and hes sh1te, cant follow the logic. Obviously one miss makes you a donkey, aye!

Not according to the amount of goals each team conceeded last season.
Also, United played two central midfielders in central defence for a few games last season and Chelsea lost Carvalho this season and are weak at right back, whereas United didn't lose anyone and are fairly strong at right back.

You don't know what my opinion is on Andy Carroll at all and I haven't even made a comment on whether I'm judging him or not.

All I asked was what did he do with the chances he got.

FFS, paranoia kicking in already and it's only game 1.

He had about 3 attempts on goal. 2 not so clear cut but the first one definitely. Should've scored but didn't. Same goes for Rooney. Had a few shots but didn't take them.

If you're allowed to say that Carroll is rubbish after the first game then it's fair to say that Rooney is gonna have a sh*t season based on that logic.

thats not really the point. Judging by TODAYS game, as you clearly are, Rooney has to be a donkey. He had a poor game. Missed some chances, and his second touch was, unusually, a tackle. You can NOT make a judgment on a player you clearly have only seen once.....

Villa isn't a terrible game to have with O'Neill gone and Milner could be gone by Saturday.

People are being way OTT with criticism of Newcastle/their players.

Judging them against United at Old Trafford first game of the season is pretty daft. Wait till they play teams in and around their level and then judge.

Jaysus I thought Carroll did well with little or no support.

It's a bit tabloidish to to make decisions on a teams season after one game, more so when they are a promoted team playing away to one of the favourites.

Missing half our defence for most of the year (OShea, RIO), our Goalkeeper for 3 months and our other CB (vidic) missing 14 league games . . Not bad for an inferior makeshift defence versus a virtually fully fit chelsea defence for the season . .
