Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I am looking to get a learners permit soon, it says on the site that certain people need a medical assesment. I guess officially I have asthma, though I haven't taken an inhaler in years, would this be the kind of thing I'd neeed the medical form for?

For your Learners Permit, you need:

1.) to pass the theory thest, and get the certificate
2.) to get an eye test
    3.) to get a medical

Then you need to fil in the application fom, and drop everything into you local tax office.

Your Doctor should be able to do the medical and eye test, and will have all the relevant forms.

    Good luck.

I never had to do a medical

Did an eye test 6 years ago, didn't have to do one when I got my bike license a year ago.

Once again reading the government information site about licensing explains all,

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/travel-and-recreation/motoring-1/driver-licensing/learner_driving_permits_for_motorcycles_in_ireland/#howtoapply

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/References/checklists/disabilities-requiring-a-medical-report-for-a-driving-licence

    </broken_record>

A medical report is compulsory if
    - you will be 70 years of age or more on the first day of the period for which the permit is being issued
    - you have any of certain disabilities or diseases
    - you suffer from epilepsy or alcoholism
    - you regularly take drugs or medication that would be likely to impair your ability to drive safely

Just another post from your local citizensinformation.ie lookup service

I was on that site, when you click into disabilities or disease, it mentions cardiovascular diseaeses, I wasn't sure if asthma would fall into this category.

Anyway I emailed the RSA and got a response today, for closure of the thread and incase anyone else does a search in the future this is the response
Asthma is not one of the listed medical conditions on the application so you would not need to submit a medical if you are not taking medications on a regular basis that would be likely to affect your ability to drive safely.

    So that's that sorted

I know this may have been answered previously, and it a little vague on
    citizensinfo.ie

Do I need to do the theory test if I have an existing full B licence,
Have it about 10 years now?
    Thanks

Yes you need to do an AM theory test

Hmmm so this thread covers medical requirements. The need to do the separate category AM theory test for motorcycles (A) and mopeds (M) even if you have a car (B) license. It also has links off to http://www.citizensinformation.ie about the motorcycle learner's permit and is titled Learner's permit question.

Eh...moderator, sticky please! There has been no finer an opportunity to get this subject finally dealt with in sticky form.
