Rathfarnham QBC Planned Improvements - Public Consultation

16-08-2010 10:06amDublin City Council and South Dublin County Council are planning to implement improvements to the Rathfarnham QBC. The plans are now on display online and they are looking for public input.
The main aspects include:
- Extending bus lanes
- Banning several right turns (including the busy one from Rathfarnham Road to Rathdown Park)
- Contra-flow bus lane at the southern end of Camden Street

Pursuant to the requirements of the above, notice is hereby given of the proposal to provide the following scheme:
Rathfarnham Quality Bus Corridor Enhancements along Rathfarnham Road Dublin 6W, Terenure Road North Dublin 6W, Harold’s Cross Road Dublin 6W, Clanbrassil street Dublin 8, South Circular Road Dublin 8, Harrington Street Dublin 8, Richmond Street South Dublin 2, Camden Street Upper Dublin 2, Camden Street Lower Dublin 2, Wexford Street Dublin 2, Redmond’s Hill Dublin 2, Adelaide Road Dublin 2 and Earlsfort Terrace Dublin 2.
This proposal is running in conjunction with the proposal for the Rathfarnham QBC Enhancements scheme in the South Dublin County Council administrative area. The Rathfarnham QBC Enhancements scheme forms part of the QBC Network linking bus routes from Grange Road and Nutgrove Avenue proceeding to the Dublin City Centre.
The sections of bus lanes proposed are as follows:
Inbound
Extend the existing bus lanes on the approach to Terenure Place/Rathfarnham Road, Rathfarnham Road/Tivoli Avenue, Harold’s Cross Road/Parnell Road, South Circular Road/Clanbrassil Street, Harrington Street/Camden Street, Camden Street Lower/Pleasants Street, Camden Street/Camden Row junctions
Provide a bus lane between Victoria Street and Bloomfield Avenue on South Circular Road
Provide a bus lane between Ashdale Road and Mount Tallant Avenue on Rathfarnham Road
Provide a bus lane between Rathdown Park and Bushy Park on Rathfarnham Road
Right turn ban to Bloomfield Avenue from South Circular Road
Provide a bus lane between Ashdale Road and Mount Tallant Avenue on Rathfarnham Road
Outbound
Contra flow bus lane along Camden Street and Richmond Street
Central bus lane on Earlsfort Terrace
Provide a bus lane along Adelaide Road
Extend the existing bus lanes on the approach to Stramer Street/Harrington Street, South Circular Road/Clanbrassil Street
Right turn ban to Rathdown Park from Rathfarnham Road and to Heytesbury Road from Harrington Street
Provide a bus lane for a section of Harold’s Cross Road between Parkview Avenue and Leinster Road
Provide two new signalised pedestrian crossings at South Circular Road/Clanbrassil Street junction.
The Scheme has the potential to provide considerable benefits for public transport users on the route as follows:
Improved bus journey times and reliability by reallocation of road space and providing Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI)
Improved facilities for cyclists, pedestrians and the mobility impaired and disabled
Upgraded traffic signal control system
Safety improvement measures

Plans/Particulars of the proposed scheme will be available for inspection or purchase at a fee not exceeding the reasonable cost of making a copy during normal working hours from 3rd August 2010 to 17th September 2010 at:
Dublin City Council Offices, Civic Offices, Wood Quay, Dublin 8 between the hours of 9.00am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday
Terenure Library, Templeogue Road, Dublin 6W between the hours Monday, Wednesday: 1.00pm - 8.00pm, Tuesday, Thursday to Saturday: 10.00am - 5.00pm
Written submissions or observations with respect to this matter dealing with the proper planning and development of the area in which the proposed works would be undertaken may be made in writing to:

It all seems good to me except for the abolition of two lanes in either direction at the Bushy Park and Rathdown junction. When heading out of town in rush hour towards Rathfarnham, Bushy Park road is already blocked up back to the High School in Rathgar. Taking away that second lane at the top is gonna cause chaos there.0
