Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Good Idea Beasty - We need a many good lights and rechargeable batteries as possible.
    I've 12 AAA and 6 18650, all rechargeable if they're any use. Also a spare Smart LED/Blackburn 4.0 and Fenix TK11.

    Radios:
If using during day and you are going to let the rider head off while you fuel the follow vehicle - remember line of sight, you may not be able to contact the rider. However at night, they are a great tool. I'd say probably the difference between first and second....or one of

    Lights:
Light your rider from above. I spoke to RAAM about this.
Lights need to have a wide spread, not a focused beam.
Make sure you remember to recharge MTB lights.
Make sure you CAN charge MTB lights.

And maybe keep an eye on the 'reflective tape' element of this thread

    Theft prevention, reflective tape.

Apparently you have to put this stuff all over your nice shiny bike.

Apologies if misinterpreted. My point was that the OP on the thread is looking for a source, as am I, and you may be too.;)

Camper van booked. My poor credit card doesn't know what's just hit it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,014 ✭✭✭shaungil

Hope that's the end of the campervan cost. We had a 100% increase in cost due to damage incurred on the Galway to Clifden road by a very tired driver.

Aaah, Now I see why you guys are doing this. It's not the cycling at all, it's just an elaborate way to get free cake. :D

Bummer! Not sure if you had it or not but when renting vehicles I ALWAYS get excess insurance. Which is in addition to the insurance you get with the vehicle for use on the road. It covers the excess that will be charged by the insurer/renting company if you do have a prang.

    Hi.

Just some free advice. On the Killarney to Sneem stage, DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT, bring the camper vap up to the Gap of Dunloe and down to the Black Valley. There is scarcely enough room for cars to maneuveur, let alone RV's. Scoot from Killarney to Molls Gap and onto Sneem or whereever on the main road.
Also, dont bring it over Short Mountain outside Tralee.

AFAIK there are a few B&B's in Kenmare that have Camper Van facilities (ie water/sewage etc). Ye will pass one actually as ye leave Kenmare and head for Glengariff.

There are parts of the route which are prohibited for campervans including the bits mentioned above.

Pictures of the support vehicles are now in.

Special purpose vehicle they'll be using to get round those narrow mountain top roads:

You're doing it solo? Great - we'll be in the van, eating cake. :)

What are the bikes of choice for this .. TT or road or both?
I heard there were some mountain bikes spotted last year for some of the descents.

I think we're all using road bikes, some with clip-ons.

It's defo possible whilst driving it! I've a feeling my training is going to be non existent during this little adventure, although I'll be well prepared for any competitive eating contests that we come across en route.

Do you have a Donation account with paypal or similar where people can happily make small donations to assist the effort and ease the financial burden?

I'm really sorry to see injury has forced you out of this Lumen. Here's wishing for a rapid recovery, and hopefully you'll be fit enough to try it solo next year:eek:

I guess the good news is you'll now be able to fully appreciate the cake!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,400 ✭✭✭Caroline_ie

The rumours are true Lumen has been upgraded to crew member due to an injury. However Team Boards.ie Wheelworx have a NEW member named Kevin Keavy ... who is a damn good cyclist and TT specialist.

Lumen will still be there moaning though. And we all love Lumen loaning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,400 ✭✭✭Caroline_ie

We are looking for a small NEW DESIGN sz boards jersey to fit our member Kevin and for Aidan as well who needs a M. Please PM me if you want to donate or lend or sell one :)

As Boards are sponsoring the team, perhaps we should have polls on certain challenges within the RAI, with Mods getting the casting vote.

For this particular "task" my vote goes to Tom as punishment a prize for turning up to winning last night's TT:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,400 ✭✭✭Caroline_ie

Enough about your punishment... I'm getting the cake orders in tomorrow. Mmmmmm Mr Kippling and Gâteau cakes, official sponsor of the cycling forum!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,440 ✭✭✭cdaly_

Hmm. The Kipling Cherry Bakewell should be a mad sugar rush but it ain't no Tartelette au Fraise...
