Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Claiming back tax-credits for a period of unemployment

    Hi,
I was was made redundant at the end of August 09 (notice given in July 09) but I was rehired by the same employer on a temporary basis (and less pay) at the end of Sept 09 and i am still employed with them.

I have been looking through my pay slips for last year and for all off my pay slips a tax credit increments of (€3660/12 =) €305 had been deducted from my paye tax due. The thing is, I had only 10 monthly pay slips last year because my pay for August 09 was included tax free in my redundancy cheque* and i was unemployed for September.

(*I think it was tax free because because it was treated as and extra redundacy payment above the statutory amount which wasn't within taxable range)

So my tax for the year was €5,000 and Tax Credits of €3,050 (€305 x 10 ) were deducted from that. So the summary of Tax Deducted on my P60 was €1950.

My question is, am I entitled to look for a refund of €610 as only tax credits of €3050 were deducted from my tax and not the annual entitlement of €3660. How do I go about claiming it if so ??

ring up the revenue and ask for a P21 balancing statement - if you've overpaid it will show up

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
