Got this on Blu-ray last weekend based on the promising reviews and yes for the buget it was good but it did get tedious towards the end and the end was a let down 3/5.

Very disappointed given the reviews i read.. Wrong title for starters as very mis-leading, and lacks the Thriller bite that it is advertised as..

The "monsters" are meant to be the humans/Americans in the story I believe. Though the cinematography was very good in places overall the movie was completely devoid of any real substance. It reminded me of the start of Wolf Creek but going on for an hour and a half. Though a lot was left up to the imagination it would have been nice to learn how
the aliens were knocking all the aircraft out of the sky and why there was a huge hole in the wall that 50 monsters could have got through
and how 6 months into the invasion the leads knew nothing about the creatures, and I mean nothing. The 2 main characters could not of been more uninteresting or likeable if they tried.
When he goes out and gets pissed the night before an important event and loses the passports, she doesn't batter an eyelid. Ridiculous.
It did hold my interest until the end as I knew (thought) something would happen, it never did hence this film couldn't be rated in a positive light. As for those who say it is great considering it has a small budget, that is the same as saying a women is sexy for a 102 year old. To compare it with the brilliant "Moon", is laughable.

So, they made a sequel to this, Monsters 2: Dark Continent, that's getting released on 1st May.

I watched it (the sequel) this afternoon, and it's terrible.

It's one of the worst films I've seen. Completely misses the atmosphere of the first movie, not that I think they were even trying to hit it mind you.
