Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm looking to buy a new racing bike (bought a new Merida last summer but have always had chain slipping in low gears so very frustrating on climbs and can spend up to 1000 euro.

Am I better off going for a 2nd hand racing bike of buyinh new.

Any recommendations on what the best new bike would be (up to 1000 euro)

    thanks,
    sean.

    Sounds like you need

    (a) a good service

    (b) a good service and a few parts - chain, cassette and maybe chainrings

Either option is alot cheaper than a new bike and 1000 won't get you a big enough upgrade over what you have now to be worth the money.

Maybe upgrade to nicer wheels or a new frame and keep everything else (if you want to see a performance benefit)

yeah a good servicing is what your bike needs. Did my own and my brother's bike recently.

New gear cables, new chain, new cassette and the bike will be like new. Some great deals for spares on http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ at the moment.

    Took mine to cyclesuperstore

New bottom brakcet, headset, cables, chain, casette - all fitted and serviced for 200 euro.

Bike felt like new after, lot cheaper than buying a new bike. The work cost as much as the parts so if you do it yourself it would be half the price.
