Why no computer science?

I was looking through the list of subjects sat by Eoin Jackson, and it got me thinking: why isn't there a computer science option for the leaving cert?

Not everyone needs programming in their job, but a significant enough portion will use at least a little, even if it's only some visual basic for an excel spreadsheet.

It strikes me that a CS option would be considerably more useful for the average student than, say, hebrew studies or Swedish. Any idea why there isn't an option?

I supposed the blame can be laid at the door of our backwards education system. They really should bring it in.

Hebrew on the leaving yet no computer science. Says it all about are politicians doesn't it.

I'm a computer science graduate and there was a guy from the UK in our class. He did CS for their A levels and it was such a head start for the guy.

Its a total disgrace that its not an option.
