Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Mc Dowells would just sell the club to him more, he could take the edge off himself without Pete even getting involved! :D

One of my personal favourites is ex Bohemians defender Jimmy Aggrey, once on the books at Chelsea. Scored on his debut live on RTÉ against Rovers.

He's beaten by Trevor Benjamin who was supposed to be Emile Heskey's replacement at Leicester, managed to get an England U21 cap and was a Championship Manager favourite.

He's managed to go through a grand total of 27 clubs so far and is only 31, so plenty of time to add a few more.

Mbulelo Mabizela - had a brief spell with Spurs which included scoring an absolute screamer at Leicester. Currently with Platinum Stars in his homeland

    From Wiki:
Nicknamed "Old John" for apparently showing maturity beyond his years, as he is the youngest player to captain the South African (Bafana Bafana) soccer squad at the age of twenty. Whilst he has all the ability required to be an outstanding player with good pace, strength, composure on the ball with both feet and the timing of tackles, Mabizela has sadly had a career littered with troubles.
Mabizela was released by Tottenham Hotspur after only fourteen months with the club for disciplinary problems in 2004, (Reports of him going to training while in the state of intoxication were everywhere in the British media at the time), this followed him having been stripped of the Bafana Bafana captaincy for going AWOL some three months earlier. Other troubles have included a six month ban for the use of a banned substance in 2006 and in December 2008 a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. In July 2009 Platinum Stars made a decision to terminate his contract following further problems, but after a meeting with the team head coach Steve Komphela, "Old John" was allowed to continue his career with the club

    AFONSO ALVES

Another one of those lethal strikers from dutch football. Scored goals for fun at Heerenven, a goal a game record. In one memorable game he scored 7(seven!!!) in a 9-0 win - see thread here: http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055161733
Even started making the Brasil squad.

All the big clubs seemed to be interested. Middlesbrough took the plunge in 2008, splashing out around £13M. Even I took the bait and immediately installed him in my FF squad. His only high points were scoring a brace in 2-2 draw against Utd and a hat trick on the last day of the season against City.

Otherwise he was an unmitagated disaster. Still not 30yrs old, he is plying his trade out in Qatar where he has, as you would expect, rediscovered his goalscoring touch!

I posted a similiar thread 3 years back: 'Who remembers Sergio Conceicao?'. Makes interesting reading:

A left footed player, Keith began his career in England with Nottingham Forest in 2000 for whom he played 38 times, scoring once against Tranmere Rovers, before signing for Doncaster Rovers in February 2003.

Keith made his Nottingham Forest debut on 23 September 2000 against Grimsby Town.
However he played just seven games for Doncaster and then returned to Ireland to play for St Patrick's Athletic, Dublin City, Monaghan United and then signed for Sligo Rovers.

Keith is a former Republic of Ireland youth and under 21 international and in May 1998 scored in the final as part of the Irish team which won the European Under 16 Championships beating Italy 2-1.

Celestine Babayero left Chelsea and went to Newcastle and things started to go bad very quickly. He was released by them and in 2008 and then signed with the LA Galaxy where he manged just 45 minutes of one friendly. He hasn't played a game since and is still only 31.

    Francesco Coco

Tipped as "The Next Paolo Maldini" by every and their mother after his debut for A.C. Milan in 1995 at the age of 18 he was a very promising left back. He has pace, technique, great crossing and read the game extremely well (probably the best debut season by a teenage defender since Maldini in the 80's and only Davide Santon at Inter has replicated it since). Everything looked like it was going to be perfect for Coco. Between injuries, being loaned out and being a little prick Coco only played in 56 games for Milan in 7 years and at the age of 25 was traded to Inter as part of the deal that brought Clarence Seedorf to Milan. In 5 years at inter he played 26 games for the first team as injuries and his partying saw him pushed to the fringes of the team and loaned to smaller clubs. He retired 3 years ago at the age of 30 to persue a career in acting, which has, by all accounts, not gone very well.

Now runs a chain of retail out lets with his father and owns a clothing line called Urban 77 and is still a very well known celebrity figure in the Italian media.

    Jesper Blomqvist

Former member of United's treble winning team, he is now in his native Sweden as the player-manager of Hammarby.

As for Luke playing in the PL, well that's a bit of a misnomer, has done very little at WBA. Could leave on loan soon.

    Des Byrne.

one of the msot gifted players i ever seen playing in Richmond (the 1st time). Loaned to Cambridge so the Dublin Dons could avoid paying Pats X amount for him reaching X appearances. Involved in the terry Morris night club incident rumouringly offered cash to take the fall as the others were future english players. Smashing player, bit f a filth bag once he went to Bohs tho. had an incident in a nighclub in Stockport involving a woman and her gangster bloke showing up at training with a gun signed for Pats shortly after.

    Stockport County
    St Patrick's Athletic
    Wimbledon
    → Cambridge United (loan)
    Carlisle United
    St Patrick's Athletic
    Bohemians
    St Patrick's Athletic
    Ramsgate
    Hemel Hempstead.

Had personal issues and moved back to England.

Pats fans came up with the wonderfully apt song to the tune of Karma Chamleon for him, "Dessie Dessie Dessie Byrne, he comes and goes, he comes and goes"

    Paolo Maldini

Started off as a very promising full back but never quite lived up to his potential. A small collection of random footballing trophies here and there didn't halt the slide as his career spiralled out of existance.

Last seen at the age of 41 playing for his local club in his home town of Milan. Retired gracefully last year to become a scout after only a few international caps and a scattering of club appearances.

    Timo Hildebrand

Became the top young goalkeeper in Europe when Felix Magath was forced to bring in youngsters like Mario Gomez and Serdar Tasci into the Stutgart team.

Became German No.2 for a period, being groomed to be the future long-term No.1, and was instrumental in Stutgart's League win in 06/07.

With many top European clubs hunting him, he decided not to renew his Stutgart contract and left on a Bosman, signing for Valenia shortly after.

Unfortunately for him, he and Valencia had a nightmare that season. Koeman was a clown who liked to play long ball football towards David Villa, Valencia almost got relegated and Koeman was sacked! (i was at the Mestalla every week during that season and he was lucky to stay as long as he did)

With Koeman gone, Timo lost his No.1 shirt to Renan and he didnt like it. He basically went on strike and left Valencia by "mutual consent".

He joined Hoffenheim in 2008 but has never regained any sort of form that saw him held in such high regard. This summer he left Hoffenheim on a free and is now without a club.

    Richie Partridge
A lot of people thought he was going to be a big player for Liverpool for years. Seemed to have everything needed to be a premiership winger. Loaned to Coventry for a year and won their Player of the Year, came back to Liverpool just as Rafa took over, released at the end of that season. Spells at Sheff Wednesday, Rotherham, Chester City, MK Dons, Kettering Town(Loan) and now at Stockport County. Still only 30.

    Nii Lamptey
Pele called him "The Next Pele". Won the U-17 world cup, winning player of the tournament ahead of Del Piero, Veron and a few others. Won the U-20 African Nations, bronze at the 1992 Olympics. Made his international debut at 16, and scored. Signed for Villa in 1993 as a potential world class striker, it didnt work out for him though. He had spells at Coventry after that and then moved to Italy, Argentina, Turkey, Portugal, China, Saudi Arabia before finishing his career in Ghana. Currently an assistant coach with a Ghanian first division team.

Just read up on him, what a life he has had. A racist team-mate in Germany refused to sleep in the same hotel room as him, 2 of his children died as babies and he couldnt bury them in his homeland.

Couple of gems I just remembered.

The legendary Roque Junior who was to be the new superstar defender at Leeds. He has played a total of 62 games since he joined Leeds in 2002 and now at 34 years of age he is playing for Ituano in Brazil.

Alfonso Alves was meant to be the answer to Middlesbrough's striking problems two years back when he joined them for £12.7 million. He moved from the Riverside to Al Saad and now plays for Al Rayyan.

Joseph Desire Job was another of the many Middlesbrough flops. He was there for a good while and had one decent season but overall was a huge disappointment. He has had 5 clubs since leaving them in 2006 including the wonderful Al-Kharitiyadh and K Lierse S.K.
