Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Javier Saviola - River plate to Barca to Real and then somewhere in France

Andrés D'Alessandro - was meant to be a big player but never materialised

I remember for years having a WC 94 sticker on my locker of Eddie McGoldrick and some blonde chap who played for Norwich,

Also we had for a while a player in the national team who played defender/striker :S

He's at Benfica now playing reasonably regularly!

John O'Kane - ex-United and Everton defender who was thought to be one of the next big United players until allegedly getting too big for his boots and telling Fergie he didn't want to play left-back in a game leading to his subsequent fall through the divisions where he ended his career playing at Hyde United until retirement 2 years ago.

John Curtis - currently at Gold Coast United after leaving Northampton town during the summer.

Philipe Albert - currently working as a pundit in Belgium whilst running a fruit and veg company.

Fredrick Aaron "Fred" Savage (born July 9, 1976) played the part of 'Kevin Arnold' in the ever poular television series The Wonder Years. When the show ended, poor Freddy was unable to find any more acting gigs, so he lived as a hermit for a few years.

He was last seen working in a Burger King in Wyoming around 2005.

Where is he now indeed?

Why the shocked expression? Levante play in La Liga and are in the same city as Del Horno's parent club Valencia  Now if he was playing for the likes of Gimnástica a few divisions down I'd be shocked.

Now plays for Welling Utd in the Blue Square South, which is just below the conference (or Blue Square Premier as it's now called). Didn't make the cut at Chelsea, but no disgrace in that since it must be almost impossible for a young player to break through at Chelsea now, he'd have to be very very good.

Malcolm Christie - not far past 30 and without a club as far as I know since he left Leeds at the end of 08/09 season. A good player back in early noughties with Derby after making the massive step up from non-league but crippled by the deadly duo of chronic injury and joining Middlesboro :D

Rami Shaaban - plays for Hammarby in Sweden and in Swedish national squad regularly. Another of Wenger's dodgy goalkeeping purchases.

Patrick Suffo - formerly of Barcelona, Nantes, Coventry (when in PL), Sheff Utd, Numancia and with nearly 30 caps for Cameroon. Released by Wrexham in BS Premier at end of 08/09 season aged 31.

Lamine Sakho - formerly of Lens, Marseilles, St Ettienne, Leeds (in PL) and over 50 caps for Senegal. Star in French football in late 90s and early noughties. Also released by Wrexham in BS Premier at end of 08/09 season aged 31.

Juan Ugarte - best friend of Xabi Alonso from R Sociedad academy. Joined Wrexham in 2005 and almost single handedly kept them in football league as top scorer in League 2. Earned move to Crewe where only made a handful of sub appearances in 2 years and retired aged 26.

Del Horno was a relatively expensive player when he was signed by Chelsea, and indeed he was an expensive signing for Valencia when he returned to Spain in summer 2006. He is still only 29 and given the success he enjoyed early in his career and with Chelsea, I think his fall from grace is pretty spectacular. Remember, as well, Del Horno has been loaned out since 2007 (when he was 26- the peak of a player's career). A lot of the suggestions on this thread are of players who simply continued their playing careers too long to make a bit of money. Del Horno, on the other hand, has declined during what should be his peak- although tbf injuries are largely responsible for his downfall.

To put it in perspective, it would be like Wayne Bridge winning the league for Chelsea, and then less than five years later playing for the likes of Blackpool or West Brom.

Luque is playing for Malaga after a couple of seasons with Ajax

Emre won the Turkish League player of the year in season 2009–2010 with Fenerbahçe.

    Another couple of ex-Newcastle players:

Jon Dahl Tomasson is back playing for Feyenoord at 33 after stints with Milan, Stuttgart, Villarreal.

Patrick Kluivert is assistant coach at NEC Nijmegen after his successful early career petered out with Valencia, PSV & Lille.

Laurent Robert is now a free agent after being released by Greek side Larissa.

Brazilian goal machine, and twice recipient of the European Golden Boot, 'Super' Mario Jardel has recently signed for the mighty PFC Cherno More Varna; a mid-table club in the Bulgarian premier division. Unfortunately, Jardel (age 36) has seen his career decline ever since he left Sporting Lisbon, and he has lined out for some of the sh1ttiest clubs on the planet over the past few seasons, including Beira-Mar, Ancona, Criciúma, Newcastle Jets FC, and Bolton Wanderers. He has barely scored a goal since 2003. :(

Here's a video of Super Mario when he was banging them in for fun:

Word of warning: you might want to mute the crappy music!

    Francesco Coco

Tipped as "The Next Paolo Maldini" by every and their mother after his debut for A.C. Milan in 1995 at the age of 18 he was a very promising left back. He has pace, technique, great crossing and read the game extremely well (probably the best debut season by a teenage defender since Maldini in the 80's and only Davide Santon at Inter has replicated it since). Everything looked like it was going to be perfect for Coco. Between injuries, being loaned out and being a little prick Coco only played in 56 games for Milan in 7 years and at the age of 25 was traded to Inter as part of the deal that brought Clarence Seedorf to Milan. In 5 years at inter he played 26 games for the first team as injuries and his partying saw him pushed to the fringes of the team and loaned to smaller clubs. He retired 3 years ago at the age of 30 to persue a career in acting, which has, by all accounts, not gone very well.

Now runs a chain of retail out lets with his father and owns a clothing line called Urban 77 and is still a very well known celebrity figure in the Italian media.

He was also on trial with City in 2007 but was booted out after three days, allegedly for smoking while he was meant to be training.

Diego Forlan's Argentine strike partner at Independente, Matías Vuoso.

Arrived at Man City for £3.5m about 6 months after Diego was signed by United, never played a game for them. Went off to Mexico in 2003, first on loan, then permanently. He's had two spells at both Santos Laguna and Club América. Became a Mexican while Sven was in charge and currently has 4 goals in 9 games for the national team.

    Barcelona's striking "sensation" Maxi López.

Brought in when Henrik Larsson picked up an injury during the 04/05 season. Limited success and first team opportunities saw him head off on loan to Mallorca. Spent the full 06/07 season there before being sold to FC Moscow. Lasted a season there before going out on loan to Brazilian side Grêmio. The Argentinian did well enough there to attract the interest of Serie A side Catania who signed him up on a four year deal last January.
11 goals in 17 games saw Catania finish mid table and Maxi declare that he wouldn't be too averse to pulling on the azzurri of Italy rather than the albiceleste of his homeland.

After bursting onto the scene at the 2007 Copa America, scoring four goals - helping Mexico to the semi-finals, he joined Shakhtar Donetsk for a mind boggling €20million, where he went on to play 12 games and score just a single goal, in between loan spells at Man City, Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk and now Chicago Fire, where he has played just 13 games between them all.

    Milton Nunez:

    article-1218559-06B91684000005DC-602_224x332.jpg

Núñez is now somewhat a cult hero for Sunderland, due to his small size and only one appearance. It is believed that Peter Reid, who was the manager when Núñez was brought to the Stadium of Light, thought that he had signed Núñez's strike partner at PAOK and not Núñez himself which led to a brief stay only in England before returning to Nacional after playing just one game for Sunderland.

He's currently playing with CSD Comunicaciones in Guatemala.
