definitely not as depressing a wasteland as Fo3, much more full of life and bustle. pretty enjoyable game, took a while to get going compared with Fo3.
just killed Deathclaw Alpha Male and Deathclaw Mother in the Quarry, my god they were tough, only level 15 atm

Loving it so far. Haven't gotten very far in it yet; only level 4.

I'm sick of the poxy radio in it now. It's the same three songs over and over.

    Guys, in desperate search for a bit of help here. My 17 yr old son, The Dude, is like a bag of cats right now. So I asked him to write down what's up and said I'd search for help on boards. So he's written it down as follows ;

"Bought New Vegas earlier today, installed it without any issues. But as soon as I tried to play it, I got stuck in this auto configuration loop. The message you get the first time you play it which says " FNV is detecting your video hardware and will adjust video settings accordingly" Should come up only once but keeps coming up every time I hit " Play ".

Running it on an Acer 5745G laptop - 4 gb RAM, IGB GPU and 2.2 GHZ processor. Runs Crysis on High so should run FNV.

Anyone had a similar issue ? We need to get him out of the dark place he's currently in.

How did you manage that!? I was around the same level when I went to the quarry and got all my holes raped. What guns are you using to take them down?

Time for another day in New Vegas.

    Playing in Hard, Hardcore mode.

Hard actually means hard in New Vegas, unlike Fallout 3, and that's just the way I like it :)

EDIT: Only bugs I have encountered so far are Stutter (which I fixed by dropping in the dll) and the visual one where sometimes an object in the distance will turn to a white or black square for a few milliseconds.

My repair skill is 32 at the moment, but i managed to restore a 9mm Pistol to 100% condition. Is this a bug or the way its ment to be? Or is high level repair use mostly for work benches now?

Jumped back on at 1am last night to play :P Finished the Primm area and starting to feel capable of defending myself. Might knock it up to very hard. Gonna leave hardcore for my second playthrough. blogboards.ie

Sorry for the stupid question people but I must have missed this in game,

Can some one tell me what per+1 is in terms of item stats , and if food and h2o stats are better higher or lower?

Could you post a link to the file if you still have it? I had a look at the nexus forums but could'nt find it. I've been having the same problem.

+1 per = + 1 Perception (most commom way of getting this boost is to wear a cowboy hat)

For the food and h2o stats, lower = better.

The one stupid thing I had to dig around for was how to fit mods to your weapons... (select the weapon in you inventory and hit the X key)

Perception is range at which you detect enemies right?

Yes, it also benefits the use of energy weapons and explosives. Lockpicking also increases to. Apprently in New Vegas it also said in the manual and the vigortester that it increases all gun accuracy like in the first 2 Fallout games, but tests have been done by players and apprently there is no increase in accuracy for none energy weapons. Might be bugged...

Had 3 crashes on 360 last night. One where the entire screen just froze after leaving a building, one where I got trapped inside a rock and couldn't escape and another where the sound bugged out and there was this horrendous buzzing noise and all the music/dialogue crapped out.

    Still loving it though!
Just encountered the NCRCF to recruit a sherrif for Primm. I wanted to try and charm my way in but ended up blowing the entire place to **** with sticks of dynamite.

I think Repair doesnt limit the level you can repair a gun/ armour to, the rarity of the base items for repair parts are what limits it now. repair is more for making equipment, breaking down and remaking ammo and for certain conversation choices. Feels a lot more organic and you arent spending the first 10 levels with guns that max at 25% CND because your repair is so low.

As for food, you want the "-xx" for FOD and HYD or whatever, not the "+xx". The food and drink stats increase from 0 to 1000 and the higher it gets the worse you will be. Its why beer raises your drink stat as it makes you thirsty. Same goes for radiation, you want "-xx" RAD to decrease your radiation level. The +1 in PER, STR, etc gives you a short term boost to that stat, check your Pipboy for the rundown of what each stat does.

Does repair not effect the extent to which you ca repair a gun with another gun?

As in repair a 25% pistol with another 25% pistol at level 10 repair and you might get it up to 30%. However at level 60 taking the same two guns you may repair it to 40-50%?

I was stuck choosing between Fallout: NV and Metro 2033 :l

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,960 ✭✭✭DarkJager

Loving this so far, haven't had any crashes yet. Loads of interesting stuff to and moving pretty well through the story at the moment. Also found a cap glitch in the primm casino so loaded with funds :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,606 ✭✭✭Jumpy

    Depends on what you like.

Metro is deeeeeepressing. Its like "we must all suffer for mother russia" style. Its also very laggy for the requirements, but ignore that on a high end pc.

Fallout is more humourous, while still getting the whole "end of the world" thing.

I had Fallout 3 and it was awesome, might get NV so :)

    Master of the Universe

In Fallout 3 I built up my Medicine skill quite high to get as much health as possible out of stimpacks.

Think I'm going to leave it alone this time though as eventually it made the game too easy.

If anyone has the PC version and is experiencing jump graphics i would suggest you take a look at.

    http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1123822-potential-fix-for-npc-slowdown/

Im about 10 hours in and playing on hard mode and im enjoying it a lot. Had only 1 crash so far, no other bugs to report on PS3. Dynamite + VATS is great :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,532 ✭✭✭WolfForager

Keeps on telling me that i have to repair my dynamite? :S

This is a nightmare. VATS freezes the game any time i try to use it, after six hours play. My last save was a couple of ours ago.
