So, even though it didnt flash up the Wild Wasteland trait, I think I encountered something that fits the bil.
Was wandering near the edge of the map and noticed what looks like a ruin of a tower or such, was metal and round. Closer inspection and I noticed it was hovering. Only then did I notice the 3 aliens standing at the the botom of the cliff below it. Several rounds of ammo (and a few reloads) later netted me an Alien Blaster (with 200 rounds) and 2 Tri-Blast Laser Rifles. Couldnt get to the ship though :(

Here's a glitch to get unlimited caps i found. Don't read it if you're easily tempted :)
The casino in primm will reopen after about 8 days. Go to the cashier and exchange caps for chips, then exchange the chips back for caps. The chips won't be removed from your inventory so you can do this infinitely. The higher the caps to chips, the bigger the cashout. Made about 190k out of this so well funded now!

Just tested it on PC, doesn't work :(

Yeah, I'm on 360 with mine. Should also mention that I haven't connected to Xbox Live since I got FNV, so don't know if it would be possible for anyone who accepted an update for it. Going to milk it before I go near Live though ;)

Another way to get into the strip is to
do all the Kings missions in Freeside. When you're done he'll grant you one favour and one of the options is access to the Strip. You'll then get a forged Passport for the strip and in you go.

Whats the best way to get rad level down? Playing on hardcore and the doc in goodsprings was no use, and I don't want to use rad away :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,532 ✭✭✭WolfForager

The travelling doc in Novac(?The town beside the rocket facility) cures radiation. Also caravan lunch packs reduce rad.

Been playing this most of the weekend and loving it.

Enjoying it more than FO3 actually.

Having said that, I just reached New Vegas and I'm a little...... underwhelmed.
Not the bustling hive of activity it was being sold as.
It was the same in FO3 for me. I hated the big urban areas such as Rivet city. Much preferred the isolated villages with self-contained quests.

I like the tidy up on the skills, Big and small Guns gone, just one skill now.

I prefer the new speech system, you either have the required skill or you don't.

I love the concept of Factions and how much you are liked/hated.

The companion system seems to work much better in this, not sure why.

I'm up to level 8 and my skills are
    Guns 70
    Explosives 52
    Speech 50
    Lockpick 27

So far I'm finding it pretty easy. I'm use a Cowboy repeater and headshotting my way through everydbody.

Just met Benny but think I might step back from the main quest and go exploring for some side quests now.

I hit level 30 and visited 90% of locations on the map before even entering the strip/freeside, by the time i got there i had 50,000 caps and was made of solid steel with a host of awesome guns and power armour. O_o

Loved FO3, I mean cmon, who doesn't but didn't fell overwhelmed to buy this for some reason. Now when I boot up my PS3, it's the most being played on my friends list and everyone is talking bout it how its better than FO3, bugs an all!

I have a PS3 so was instantly worried about getting it but reading your comments, looks like the problems are across the board. I might trade in Red Dead Shiit (finally) for this.

Can anyone tell me if it really is better than FO3 and are the side quests (my fave bit) more interesting?

ps. Loved the side quests in the FO3!

    Thanks!

Hard to say so far i'll say its great but not as good as 3 , one thing though I thought was it definitely did not start as strongly as 3.

Only 2 ways I know of: Rad Away and Doctors. And only met 2 Docs so far who can cure it. Just bite the bullet and us a rad Away, its what is used for ;)

quarryman: Cowboy Repeater is HEAVENLY, love the damn thing :D

sheehy83: It does play VERY similar to Fallout 3, very little is new or expanded from it. Have to say the world looks more natural and less "generic brown wasteland" that made F3 a bit of a drudge to wander round. Variety in weapons is also far better, almost every hour I find a new gun and go "OOOOOH". Plus the writing is just outstanding, plus the voicework is great, a lot better than the secondary school drama class level F3 resorted to at times.

Loving Veronica, the little quips she says as you change her attack patterns are great.
Tell her to switch to ranged - "Does flying at them swinging my fist count as ranged?"
Open her inventory - "Aaaaww, your making me hold the heavy stuff arent you!!"
Switch back to melee attacks "YES...finally, everythings coming up Veronica!!"

Be careful in Vault 3 guys. I encountered some bug that ****ed up any save after I left it. Lost a couple of hours game time thanks to it.

Personally, I think it's much better than FO3. The main quest isn't as exciting, but the side quests are so much better. They all seem to have more ways to complete them and it's not always a pass/fail type of thing.

The world seems like there's more happening in it too. With FO3 it was like everything was at a standstill waiting for you to arrive, but in this one it almost seems like everything is constantly changing (even though it isn't) and you do get a sense of urgency about certain quests.

And there's so many little things to find about the place (though you usually get killed by some big beasty after you find it). I was just exploring, skipping the main quest, and I found a bootleggers shack, the remains of a raided caravan, a Super Mutant ski lodge (with Worf from Star Trek as a character he played in a previsous Fallout game), an explorable ant hill, it goes on.

The factions dynamic makes things more interesting, although I'd almost swear that wearing an enemy factions outfit doesn't make them not attack you, it just makes you allies attack you too!

I should have this delivered today. When builiding a character for this, is there any point trying a speech\pacifist build at the expense of combat stats?

You can, but you'll be killed a lot. It's what I did. The thing is though, every single skill is useful, so by pumping points into one, you'll be missing out on others.

One of the first quests is a good example: you have to convince a group of people to help you. One reacts to a high speech skill, one to explosives, one to medicine and I think the last one was to bargaining (think that's what it's called). So you can't really get them all on your own.

But you can find books that give you a permanent 3 points added to a skill and magazines that give you +10 or +20 to a skill for a limited time (just about a minute or two) which can help you get past those kind of speech related quests.

You may want to focus on one type of combat and pump points into that as well as one or two of the non-combat skills. Guns is handy as there are plenty of them all over the place.

and for the first while, until you have a character that's competent in combat, stick to the roads. When you go cross country you get eaten pretty quickly.

This game is very addictive, I cant remember the last time ive been up til 5 in the morning playing a game.
It also seems harder than fallout 3, I died about 20 times on one of the first missions trying to rescue some guy.

As a serious fan of Fallout 1 and 2, I'm loving this far more than Fallout 3.

After finding the Unique Plasma Rifle, I haven't had a need for mods :D

Plus it can't take any :(

I have a fire-speed increase for the Cowboy repeater. Also got an extended mag, night scope and silencer for the varmint rifle (pity its weak as hell). Seen a lot more on the odd merchant too. More become available as you level up, same as more exotic weapons start appearing.

If your near them, try the gun merchant at 188, or the Gun Runners near new Vegas itself.

Where exactly are the gun runners? I have a lot of junk I need shifting and I hear they have around 4k caps.

I'm kind of the same. After getting the multi laser thingy (can't remember the name, but it fires 3 shots at a time and decimates enemies), I've not really bothered with other guns and the only mod I've found was a silencer for the varmin gun.

I have to say that they selection of weapons is pretty cool. At this point in FO3 I'd have had all the main guns and a few of the unique ones, but in New Vegas I'm discovering new standard weapons all the time and keep stumbling on unique weapons too.

Agree... i don't even remember this many quests in F3, i've had some amount stacked since the start(after doing the first part of the main quest though i went north for the strip)
I also have a good few running as i don't know what to do with them.... especially since <Crimson caravans-Cass>
I did the quest with my companion-Cass which ended with me having to kill the owner, but then it affected NCR fame and had all inside attacking me which ended another side quest i had in the compound.
so in just reloaded a save from a few minutes before that.

Where exactly are the gun runners? I have a lot of junk I need shifting and I hear they have around 4k caps.

Just outside the strip.... i can't remember the best road to get there though.... i think maybe Camp McCarran is nearest if you have that discovered. The vendor has 8000 caps and some serious weapons costing 4k+.

Anyone who's been to the gun runners vendor think
You can nuke his shop when you get a fat man, the dialogue about how it was built around him makes me think you can eventually blow it up and steal the lot
