Reading some reviews atm... How can a game with so many bugs be released? Think i may wait a few weeks before i pick it up, one of the annoying things about a game for me is the game freezing or getting stuck in the environment, leading to you having to restart the console and restarting from a saved game 3 hours prior.

Sounds like there are some major bugs but still getting some very good review scores.

    9.3 on NowGamer.
    9 on Destructoid.

I was gonna buy this for the PS3 but I've been reading about exclusive DLC for the 360 so might just buy it on that instead methinks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,067 ✭✭✭Gunmonkey

Its probably just the timed exclusivity that happened with Fallout 3, doubt it will be as long a wait between format releases too.

The DLC for the 360 and Pc was released between January and August 2009
The DLC for the PS3 ended up coming out in September, 9 months after they began being released on Xbox360.
That's a long time. A very long time. I hope that it doesn't take that long for this game.

Had flip through the reviews, sounds like more if the same. More of the same will do me quite nicely.

20-50 second load times are not so welcome nor is the frame rate slowdown exiting a building or lockups and forced restarts. Save save save will be the order of the day. I think I actually got off quite lightly with regards bugs in the last game from what I remember.

All I wanted out of this was to be the same as Fallout 3 in a new area and no bugs/glitches. I doubt they will even patch it either.

Lol, you'd spend weeks playing through the first one.

They really need to update the engine i think. Its looking pretty bad at times, especially the characters/npc's. I know that it wont matter, and the game will still probably be awesome, but it would be nice for some graphical updates.

Yeah, you'll be at it for ages. The plots aren't linked, as far as I know. It's more to do with the previous two games. But you'd spend longer on those than you would on Fallout 3.

I'd say you'll be grand (and you can always play FO3 afterwards).

Hardcore mode sounds really interesting. I think it's the way I'll be playing the game.

I like the way it will independent of the actual difficulty level as well.

Yeah me too but it seems truer to the older fallout games and might make the end game more challenging since I found after I got some decent weapons and levels Fallout 3 became a breeze.

Are people going to play hardcore mode straight off from day one or complete it first and re do?

Im not sure whether to just dive straight in or not!

Pre-order the special edition in GAME or Gamestop, it's out on Friday.

I'm going to play hardcore mode right off the bat. However I've no money to pick the game up yet so I'll see if it's frustrating or not first anyway :) I've too many games to play through the game twice. 120 hours on one fallout 3 playthrough was enough for me thank you very much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,928 ✭✭✭VenomIreland

I'm going to go Hardcore as well :)

Will be a much better experience as well as if you only do Hardcore your second time round it won't be as immersive because you know all about what's going to happen in the game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 125 ✭✭Firehen

I'm really looking forward to this.

As a fan of the series from the original Fallout, I'm hoping they combine the dialogue/setting of the first two games with the gameplay of Fallout 3.

3 was a great game on its own merits, but it wasn't a true successor to the first two games in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, if it were more of the same I'd be happy, but with the introduction of Obsidian, I'm hoping it'll surpass my expectations.

Usually get my games through Stream, what are the pros and cons of buying it in a shop. Is this game out in some countries already, i know its on the Stream servers Friday.

PS3 Unboxing of limited edition new vegas

Xbox 360 unboxing of limited edition new vegas

    worth it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,928 ✭✭✭VenomIreland

Ugh, hate the stupid console fanboys on the PS3 video, can't be bothered watching the 360 video.

IMO it's sorta worth it, it's €20 more for a graphic novel (NOT Comic Book) that on it's own would retail for around that, plus a few extras.

I won't be getting the collector's edition however as I don't have the money for it,

This game uses Steamworks, so the game will be added to your Steam games list, permanently. The best of both worlds I believe.

It cheaper and it is steamworks compatible so a retail version will be fully integrated to your steam account (You could throw away the box after install if you want).

Not sure if preload is available, so it might also be as quick to buy it in a shop if preload is not an option and the steam servers are getting hammered on Friday. :) (Actually it may not be as bad as usual as it is not a simultaneous worldwide release)

Through some sort of miracle cock-up, by copy arrived yesterday. Didn't get to play much (only about an hour or so), but I'm enjoying it. It's got a great Western feel to it. I only got to play the xbox version before, which was awkward enough for me (too used to PC games), so I found the PC version a lot easier to use.

Graphically, it's still the same, with all the same character models from the last one (it almost plays out like some bizarre Fallout 3 dream where the people you meet seem to take on new roles). But gameplay wise, it's fairly different at times. There's now a whole load of junk you can make, from weapons to ammo to medicines.

Can't really comment on anything else really, as I've pretty much only done the tutorial and walked about a bit. But I'm loving even just doing that. I'm playing on the hardcore level, but since I've not gone too long, it hasn't really affected me.

And make sure you watch the whole intro video and don't skip it. It's nothing really important, but it's f*cking cool. Got a chill down my spine when Ron Pearlman starts narrating.

Oh, and this isn't a spoiler, but you erally should search and take everything from the start location. There's some good stuff there. and it doesn't count as theft.

Have you had any issues with your graphics card or run into any bugs?

Actually no. I've heard bad things from a lot of people, but luckily I've had no problems so far. I've heard Steam f*cks up the saved games, so we'll see if they still work later.

I can't remember off the top of my head, but I think I'm running an AMD 5870 GFX card and have 8 gig of ram. I've heard NVidia have a lot of problems.

It is available, I've had it preloaded since Monday. Roll on Thursday midnight, hopefully :)

I heard the PC version is more stable than the console and i know hardware specific and hardware/software combinations problems will show up but the version that has the most polish was meant to be the PC, still getting it on PS3.

Feck sake, once again if you finish the game you cant go on and complete side missions. So bloody stupid!!!!

Played it for about 3 hours last night on the pc with no issues (i5 with GTX460). The console crash/hang is going to be fixed by a day one patch so they have said.

What about the fact that once you finish the main storyline you cant play on. IGN video said they patched it with Fallout3 but i cant play on after i finished on the PS3 version. Its probably designed to force you to buy the DLC so you can play on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 593 ✭✭✭Scráib

Unsurprisingly Fallout Vegas will only feature DLCs for XBox and PC initially. This has me wondering, will anyone not buy the game new and simply wait for the inevitable GOTY edition?

For Fallout 3 I bought the game new, loved it, then a year on I bought the GOTY edition. Looking back it was a needless double investment that I'm not sure I want to repeat. That said I loved the game and I do want to play it asap.

Also, there's no hype for this game. Which is a bit wierd. Are people just not bothered because it's the Fallout equivalent of Bioshock 2 i.e. Minor tweaks but essentially feels like the same game with new levels?
