... So he's carried his traditional boot licking with him across the Irish Sea as well..

    .

He also seems to have carried you across the Irish Sea to listen to him.

I just don't get it - you don't like Tubridy, yet you continue to listen to him and follow him around different stations in different countries to continue to listen to someone you claim you don't like? Why?

I would normally listen to The Marian Finucane / Charlie Bird / Rachael English / Uncle Tom Cobbley ;-) Show .. but Clare Byrne just sends me back to sleep again... I dont like that program that Hook does either, so I'm short on good options .. I'm also actually interested to see what the Brits make of him..

What's this talk about a new producer.

Surely it doesn't have one now, I mean every show is just follow on comments from txts & Twitter.

His nit-picking about things he doesn't like is just really annoying now.

The show is really awful but I don't agree with some of the vitriolic bashing of tubs, I think he is a good person & his heart is in the right place.

As with regards to not finding a sponsor yet, I'm sure some babycare product would fit perfect, I'm sick of mothers ringing up with their kids in the background & tubridy asking them to describe them.

The shows themes are just too narrow & I don't wanna listen to a show just reading out txts, what a gig the staff on that show have.

I'm not sure why youi listening to him will help you learn what those you refer to as the brits think of him.

There are hundreds of radio shown in the UK, hundreds of podcasts, and yet you choose to listen to the one presenter you tell us is a dreadful broadcaster, and with whom you continually rush here to find fault with. Shome Mhistake Shurley.

RTE: Tubs' show is working - it just needs listeners

Quoted in Monday’s Irish Independent, a spokesperson for RTE said, “Clearly all at 2FM, including Ryan, recognise the challenges of the months ahead, but as [RTE radio executives] Clare Duignan and John McMahon have both said recently, the show is working, it has found its rhythm, and now it's about making sure more listeners hear it. This is a shared aim and all at 2FM are coming together to achieve it.”

    http://www.joe.ie/entertainment/entertainment-news/rte-tubs-show-is-working-it-just-needs-listeners-0014746-1

That kind of logic might make sense to radio executives desperatly trying cover their own backsides until the next round of JNLR figures, but it makes very little sense to anybody else. What about the other presenter brought into replace G. Ryan, who has lost even more listeners - hows his shows rhythm doing? Or the breakfast Show presenter who replaced the previous 2 presenters because they were losing listeners, but now has less listeners then the ex-presenters had when they got the boot.

Claire Duignan on why Colm and JimJim needed to be replaced back in August 2010...

“It was losing listeners ... If it had been growing its audience, that show would still be on air."

    Classic Orwellian doublethink.
    Or simple self-delusion, perhaps?

I don't think it's self-delusion. They must know by now that it's a lost cause, but admitting it would reflect badly on them because they are the ones who decided to put those 3 presenters in place.

So much of what happens in the civil service is about blame avoidance, watching your back, not admitting mistakes. And RTE is just another branch of the civil service. Serving the licence-fee payer comes second to clinging on to the self-importance of a job which has a big name but you can't actually do. When did Clare Dignan or John McMahon last meet a normal person who they weren't employing in one way or another?

Tubridy has shut down his Tweet machine for good.. If you look up the TubridyTweets account, there is nothing there...

    http://thedailyedge.thejournal.ie/ryan-tubridy-bids-farewell-to-twitter-197367-Aug2011/#slide-slideshow1

So no more mention of Twitter.. This should immediately improve his show 20%..

Ha ha i just saw this comment under one of the articles.

I wonder if Tubbers quitting Twitter has anything to do with him being (allegedly) given an ultimatum by RTE radio bosses to shape up or ship out?

I enjoyed the Roy Keane stuff this morning but then he fell into that familiar trap of kids, bon bons and sweet shops

It's odd that he heavily promoted his Twitter account on his BBC Show for the first few weeks, then he got the hump and ditched it

He also said the 2FM would have a twitter account, but it doesn't exist at this time.

I reckon he lost his temper, and deleted it without in a huff #throwinghistoysoutofthepram #backontwitterbeforetheendoftheweek

Hmm... The Mail reckons Monday night's tweet about 'the revolution' being televised may have raised heckles at the Beeb. #londonriots

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,718 ✭✭✭✭JonathanAnon

    Seems mrsdewinter may be right..

I'm finished tweeting says 'busy' Tubs after onilne attacks on him
His move came after he suffered a torrent of abuse from some followers over comments he made relating to London riots. On Monday night, he posted: "Watching rioters dousing a car with petrol before the match is struck. Awful scenes. The revolution is being televised."

Dozens of people criticised him for appearing to condone the riots. The dad-of-two clarified his comments moments later, writing: "Just to clarify, the 'revolution' quote was just that, not my description of the mindless rioting."

I'd say the BBC told him to close down the account.. They wont indulge him like RTE do..

Yep, probably a bit of a shock for Tubs, being accountable for his actions and having to answer to your employer when you fcuk up, traits not required for most RTE employees.

Seems like a fairly harmless thing to say. He did describe the looters as 'awful' before he referenced Gil Scott Heron.

It's not like he was cheerleading for the rioting thugs.

I think Tubridy has been hard done by here, if the BBC did indeed take umbrage at his tweet .

Still, I'm sure he'll set the record straight on his radio show in the morning... Right? Right?

He was naive posting that remark.. As usual, he tries to make an "intellectual" allusion to an uppity piece of literature to make himself appear clever. But he didnt take in to account how it would be read and understood by his audience (i.e. normal people).. It's kind of demonstrative of what is wrong with his show to be honest..

There'll be a load of stories about TwitterGate (which is what he would have called it if it was a story about somebody else) in the papers tomorrow, so I'm guessing the papers in three words will be ... Avoidance, Denial and Repudiation..

This all blew up last night, did anyone hear if he mentioned it this morning?

It'll be interesting to see what emerges. He needs this controversy like a hole in the head, his Radio 2 show seemed to be going well so far. He really doesn't need The BBC to perceive him as a loose cannon, regardless of the rights or wrongs of the incident.

You've hit the nail on the head.

I just caught a flash of the front of "the sun" on tv3 having a go at tubs with his failing radio show, interesting to see how he glances/avoids it full page tomorrow (although he did this for days successfully with the Gerry Ryan cocaine story so he will do fine I suspect).

  • Registered Users Posts: 835 ✭✭✭miketv

To be fair, he did read out the headlines criticising himself and his show. The excuse was along the lines of Its a 2 hour show and he will be all refreshed pumped in 2 weeks (after his holidays). On the plus side Dave is back on Monday.

On top of everything, he is painfully slow on the uptake as well.

This morning in the paper review he reads a headline about Accord marriage counselling service reporting "internet abuse" as the number 1 threat to married couples relationships.

Obviously a euphamism for pron, right?

Not to Tubridy who goes off on a tangent about the dangers of texting, facebook and i phones.

No, i think Tubs is right. Related to the lack of time that couples spend together. It's 50/50 between the ladies and guys and it's not just related to porn.

Ok, I will bow to your greater knowledge of the survey, but how the hell does texting = "internet abuse"
