Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just looking at a game in the dutch first division tonight and a guy by the name of Voskamp has already scored 8 after 74 minutes

    http://livescore.com/default.dll/game?comp=holland2&game=413808

Just wondering can anyone think of more by one player? not including games against American Samoa etc.

According to wikipedia it was his debut, what a dream debut.

Fairly certain Fowler scored five in a match for Liverpool once.

Andy Cole did too for Man U.

Viduka scored four for Leeds against Liverpool too I think? That's a pretty big achievement in a match between two closely matched teams.

some australian lad scored 13 against american samoa in a world cup qualifying game I think a few years back - they won 31-0 I think but still

dunno if that qualifies for a half decent competitive match but still a pretty good acheivement

what a debut though - bet he doesn't score for the rest of the season :p

Dutch league is a joke. Didnt Alfonso Alves score a hatful in one game as well?

Sure Defoe scored 5 against Wigan last season

I'd say Salenko's 5 is the best example

Joe Payne scored 10 for Luton Town against Bristol Rovers in 1936.
Ted Drake scored 7 for Arsenal against Aston Villa in a Division One(equivalent of Premier League) game in 1935.

An iranian has the record not Ali Daie but his strike partner in a 36 goal romp.

tad fuzzy on it but think he got 17

actually wrong, the aussie has it with 13

Jonathan Speake scored 6 for Derry City I recall back in the 80s. Not sure if thats a LOI record.

It doesn't really. American Samoa have conceded 109 goals in 12 WC qualifying games, despite being in groups with such footballing powerhouses as Vanatu and the Solomon Islands. So in short, they're totally useless. It's lopsided games like that that ultimately led Australia to leave the Oceania qualifying section.

How competitive can a match be if one player scores half a dozen or more goals? Bit of a flaw in the question. :pac:

The thing is, it wasn't American Samoa's first team, or even their second...

The American Samoa team were troubled by passport issues, with only one member of their original 20-man senior team, goalkeeper Nicky Salapu, eligible to play. American Samoa were also unable to call their under-20 players because most of them were involved in high school exams at the time. Therefore, they were forced to draft in their youth players, including three 15-year-old players, to put together a makeshift team with an average age of 18.

    FYI...

Surely it's got to be a record for someone on their debut in a competitive game?

The consistency is the cheering from the crowd for each goal unnerved me.

I think George Best got 6 in the cup against Northampton back in the day. Pretty sure there was a story that he turned up half drunk and the manager was in two minds whether to start him or not. Good aul Georgy!
