Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ok. I've got this idea into my head and I'm kinda running with it. I'm planning to get my tent and camping gear, my bike and my ipod and cycle from Rome to Toulouse over 14 days.

Now i'd regard myself as pretty fit, but no fitness freak, and i have always cycled to work since last summer (30km 5 times a week). I also do 100-150km cycles every 2nd weekend or so, and completed a 600km cycle over 4days last year.

What i'd love from you guys is suggestions on the essential gear i should be bringing because to be honest its pretty daunting and I want to be as prepared as possible.

    Thanks in advance.

A waterproof set of panniers and a reliable bike with a wide range of gears first off.

    Have fun!

+1 on reading blorg's blog in the link and tread above. It's incredibly informative, detailed and interesting and should cover most aspects of cycle touring. It's a great read also and very well written.

Sounds like a great trip you have planned, best of luck with it and hopefully those of us that can't muster such an expedition will get to read about it.
