Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,
what are we entitled to (if anything)

We both work and have one child. If my wife gives up work when baby number 2 arrives is there any sort of financial support available from the state?

I am not referring to Maternity benefit but essentially social welfare of some description for my wife if she were to give up her job to look after the kids as keeping them in chreche would essentailly negate her take home.

Any comments would be very welcome.

    Regards

    D

    Of course not!!

She will be entitled to maternity benefit. Also child benefit for baby 2.
Any other benefits will be means tested so it depends on your income and savings/assets.

If your wife was insurably employed in 2008 she may qualify for jobseekers benefit. However if she leaves her job of her own accord she could get a 9 weeks disallowance.
Also one of the conditions for receipt of jb is that she must be available for and looking for full time work. Soif she gives up work to look ater the children she will not be available or work. If your wages are low you may be entitled to family income supplement
