So, here's the deal. My job may or may not keep on beyond my visa deadline which expires in mid-November. I've been working with the company since January and my question for those of you who might know is this.

Can you cross the border to the states, before your visa expires (say a week or 2 before it), come back and re-enter Canada and then get a tourist visa for 3 months??

I'm sure you can, I mean there's nothing illegal about it providing I have my return flight booked right??

It's my only way to spend that little bit of extra time travelling Canada, especially if work won't sponser me.

If you go back a few pages there is a post by someone who was denied re-entry into Canada, he didn't have proof of his return flights though.

You'll need a return flight and enough funds to cover you, the border officer may also want to see something tying you to Ireland to make sure you're going to go back, you come across a border officer having a bad day and he/she can refuse you for anything, just bare this in mind.
