About Android push notifications

Hi, I'm thinking about going Android and I have a question. Currently I have an iphone and when it is at home sitting there unattended for a while it shuts off its wifi and starts pulling in push notifications over O2s 3G network needlessly costing me credit. I would imagine this is a battery saving measure but still it is an annoying waist of credit.

My question is do Android phones do they same thing? Can an Android phone be made to use wifi for push notification when it is available?

By default it behaves the same as iPhone (i.e. turns off Wi-Fi when idle), but this can be changed in the Advanced Wi-Fi settings, the phone will then stay on Wi-Fi as long as the signal is there.

There's plenty widgets too to turn off the 3G connection completely so you can just do that once you are at home.
