Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Assuming he trains at approximately 7 min/mile, if we draw a a circle around the Wellington Monument (2 mile radius), then draw a circle (radius 4 miles) around the Furry Glen (assuming he went straight home after his run) then all we have to do is look at where the circles intersect, and we have him. :)

I think he's trying to trick us by stopping somewhere different on the way back as the altitude of the finish is 5m below the start point.

I did the 2nd lap part this afternoon - it was roasting hot - though it was nice to have a tiny bit of a breeze was behind me going up the hills.

My Polar HRM recorded temps between 24 and 29 degrees (measured at my wrist).

I have attached the altitude readings from my HRM. I blurred out the start and end because it is profile of my route to and from the Park.
Eastbound Chesterfield Ave is a long gradual descent, a descent that has to be made up somewhere :p

The actual altitudes on your graph are bonkers, the Phoenix Park is almost at sea level, not 110m! But I know it's the relative altitudes that are important, so thanks for posting! ;)

    But

If I knew the altitude of my home (+/-5m of course), I would reset the watch before I went for a run but I don't know how to find said altitude. I could cycle to the beach, set it to 0 and cycle home but that doesn't interest me.

While that would normally be a good assumption, I was totally dead for the last half of yesterday's training.
And, my foodpod missed a ton of readings (it only recorded 11.6km for a 19.5km run!)

Damnit. We'll just have to follow you home. :)

Back on topic (sorry!), anyone have a full Garmin Connect link for the entire route?

Will probably head to the Phoenix Park tomorrow and try and run the route so if anyone's planning on doing something similar and wants some company, drop me a pm. Target around 7:30-8min/mile.

Krusty - I wouldn't have thought you'd need help searching the Garmin site :)

    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/14467914

(Course map looks the same as last years, but the 10 was slightly different on the day from the published map and so was the 5 (/me ducks)).

No medals for the race series events, but you do get a nice technical t-shirt which is the one of the main draws for a lot of people doing these races.

Just behind Heuston station. We should all be hanging around after, I'm pacing 2 hours so I'll definitely be around the finish area till around 12:30.

Before the race is okay. I have now sworn off the few pints the night before after Dingle. That was not a great idea in fairness.
Should be able to make it in for a few scoops.

Decisions Decisions ... do i follow a pacer or go by my initial plan. My aim is a sub 1.50 - my plan was to do 12 miles x 8.30 pace and put the foot down for the last 1.1 mile and do this in 8 mins. I have found from previous races that if I'm semi comfortably through out the race I'll can dig deep and pick it up in last mile. I know the hills at the later stage will take it out of my legs but should be able to as knowing its a mile left. I know some may say to be safer cut your last 6 miles by 10 secs and have a more even pace, however I fear if I do this I may burn out and ruin it altogether.......but maybe not, as is there much of a difference in 10 secs ..I personally think there is but question is, am I better of following a pacer...??

8.30 will be challenging enough for me for a half. My ten mile time was 1.25.11 (8.30 ave) I had similar plan here. 8.40 x 4, 5x 8.30 and push it for last mile in 7.50 to run a sub 1.25. Was 11 secs over but was happy with how I paced it.

My 5 mile was 37.11 (7.30ave) Based on this time I believe my ten mile should have been better so I doubting myself that may have cut myself short so a sub 1.25 could be achievable for the Half.

Can one please confirm will the 1.50 pacers been doing a even pace (8.20) over every mile or do they start off slower and build it up?

Any advice on what pace I should do is gladly appreciated.
    Thanks a mil

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,704 ✭✭✭✭RayCun

The pacers are running at an even pace throughout.

One thing to bear in mind is that mile 12 includes a fairly nasty hill - I wouldn't want to be reaching the top of that hill behind schedule, and having to make up a lot of time in my last mile. I'd stick with the pacers for the 12 miles and put the foot down in the last if you can.

First significant hill is up the Kyber Road around 7.5 to 8 miles. Next is up the Upper Glen Road from 10.5 to just over 11 miles. Last one is a short but steep uphill out of the Lower Glen Road (aka the Furry Glen) at about 11.5 miles.

Here is a visual of the hills (it's from my Polar HRM when I did the 2nd lap of the course).

The altitudes are relative - it was quite humid yesterday.
