Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi there,
I'm 19 yrs of age and have a 1950s 197cc(2 stroke) villers greeves trials bike. After having a great time with it off road I want to make it road legal but was just wondering if I'd be road legal if I were to go and try insure myself on it as I only just got my learner permit? How can I calculate this? I assume that i'm okay seeing as 11kw = 125cc and it is quite an old bike etc...? Any replies on this or tips on road legalising something like this would be much appreciated!

    P.S. It's a lot like this one! - http://belfast.gumtree.com/belfast/44/60264144.html

From this site a 250cc is 21bhp. I'd say you'd do well to get more then that out of a 60 year old 197cc.

I'd say you've a fairly heartbreaking journey ahead of ya! Neither insuring it, or getting it road legal are going to be an easy task imo

Well getting it road legal shouldn't be too much of a problem...It may be 60 yrs old but it's in great order...only fully restored recently by an uncle of mine who has about 50 yrs experience riding, fixing and restoring these and all kinda bikes. Also a trip to the Beaulieu International Autojumble in september should sort parts. And a phone call to carole nash should help me see where I stand with the whole insurance situation though!..I'm optimistic....well realistically optimistic! =]

No look with insurers unfortunately! Have to have more experience before going the classic route! =[ Can anyone suggest a good first bike then?!

try some quotes on a ybr125, cg125, gn125 etc, see how you get on

    if they're mad cheap, can try sportier 125s (yzf125, cbr125, rs125 etc)

You'd be better off going for a CB250 or similar. At least you can use the 250 for your test instead of having to hire/borrow one

    certainly :)

just at 19, I dont wanna get his hopes up..

OP, if the 125s are attainable, keep pushing up the cc's with the insurance companies, and try and get the biggest bike you can afford to insure

    cg125 - cbr125 - cbf250 - bros400 - cbr250 - bandit6/sv650

197c.c. Villers Greeves = the ultimate stink wheel.

I had the Villiers V15T, couldn't keep it in plugs. :p

    Is it twin port?

If you had it dyno'd, you'd know exaclty how much power it had. Or, to be precise, how little ! :D

If it makes 25kW, then frame it and post it to Villiers (if you can find them..), 'cos it's a number they could only dream about ! :p:p

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
